When was a kid and out in the bush we always had the old style canvas bag hanging on the front bumper. Nice cold
water. Are they still available?? ....and yes I have finally joined after lurking around for a while!

Yes they are still around.
I donated a couple for raffle prizes at the
Innamincka gathering this year.
Cheers Kev

So Kev where did you buy them???
and Jim ( below ) the trick is to boil the bag for a while before you use it....gets rid of the canvas taste. ...and of course always put higher than a dog can lift its leg...easier these days with bull bars but used to be a problem with the Morry ute!

Doesn't that bring back memories? I remember the Old Man always had one hanging off the front bumper. I also remember the
water tasted bloody awful, strong canvas taint.
For about $30 you can get a little thermo cooler from Trickies that will give you chilled
water that tastes like
water. That would be my preferred option for a cheap way to get a cold drink.
Cheers,
Jim.

Yes, they certainly are around. Not sure where but search for canvas
water bag or some such.
Lost my last one about 30 years ago between
Oodnadatta and Dalhousie. It was tied onto the bull bar (like everything else) but far too full.

Hi All
You can pick them up from Aussie Disposals $31-00 each,
we allways had them years ago, the
water tasted horrible, we even
soaked them for a couple of days before we used them, I remember
when we wer'nt travelling, they used to drain out over time and
flap in the breeze, now we keep chilled
water in the Engel in the
Truck, how times change.
Cheers
Daza

AAHHH!!! The good old days!! Yes, I had a canvas bag attached to the bumper of my HK Monaro in the late seventies, thats all we had and we thought it was pretty good. With one of my old girlfriends, we did many a trip with a hired touring tent, living on takeaway food and cigarettes and staying in caravan parks with my first Jayco Dove. Yes, Oh to be
young again!! Where is that girl now??? Michael.

In situations like yours, Google can be a great help. In less than 4 seconds I came up with lots of hits. Have a look at

The old bags in the seventies (waterbags) had a better wire attachment, it had a hook each end and you simply drilled two holes in your steel bumper (AHH! those were the days, steel bumpers) and put the wires in the holes... still ok for bull bars I guess. Michael
