Yep, close to the battery, sitting upright, on top of the wheel arch. I utilised an existing bolt negating the need to drill into any bodywork. I have found that one good bolt is more than enough to mount the isolator effectively. I have done this on two vehicles now.

Use 6 B & S wire. No smaller. And mount it as Mike W has.

It`s also a good idea to run a earth wire between the batteries and from the Anderson plug if you are connecting it to a caravan , rather than earth it through the body of the vehicle.

Use 6 B & S cable, not 6 mm cable., as it is a lot thicker.

Fit it close to which battery? The main point is to mount it in a position so that the lead between the two batteries is as short as conveniently possible.

The reason you want it close to the battery - starting not the aux - is the longer the cable the more chance of voltage drop ,ergo the Redarc may not cut/out in at the specified voltage , that said ,really does not make much difference as long as the cables are of sufficient thickness and lugs are crimped properly.
