Last month we stayed at Tweedheads and used my mobile phone to make calls to home using the MY HOUR [ Telstra] .7 pm- 8 pm ], which are free calls for up to 20 minutes.

When you are in Tweedheads the time on the phone is Queensland time. When we went to Kingscliff the time changed to NSW Time. The time changed at the Barneys Point bridge.

When I received the monthly account for the mobile phone I had been charged for making the calls between 8 pm& 9 pm NSW time.

After a lengthy call to Telstra they agreeded to make the calls at the Qld time, and refunded the money.

So if you stay in the Tweedheads area ,check you account if you made calls using Telstra My Hour.

Has anyone else been riped off?

Phillip,
We have had similar issues with Telstra. Each time that we have challenged them, they have backed down. It requires thorough checking of your statement though to become aware of these situations.

I'm afraid that it's just another example of the border area's, "state of confusion" that we border hoppers have to contend with due to DST.
I guess it depends upon which tower cell you are talking through or checking the time through at the time ?

Footy

I admire your charity.

If you don't think Telstra would sink to deliberately putting little tricks into the system, have a look at what they are doing about this Broadband tender.

This morning they announced that they finally tendered by the deadline - then a couple of hours later they offered to tender on something else.

Watch them like a hawk is the only way to go!

I forgot to mention that the calls went through either Coolangatta or Tweed Heads towers.

And Yes, I turned the phone on & off several times to check the network time.

Always been a nightmare down there....our grandmother is at banora point (NSW) and we need to dial 07 (qld prefix) to get through from Brisbane. Doesn't work with 02.

Broken Hill is similar, it's 50 k's from the border NSW/SA, but you have to dial 08. 02 won't work.

It always pays to turn your phone of then back on to check the time given by the closest tower. That will be the time used by telstra for call rates etc.

Hi Andrew.
I have lived at Banora Point for 20 years & we always get comments when you advise your phone number to country/interstate companies.
Cheers.
Vince
