Anyone here bought one of the7" GPS navigators off ebay? I'm led to believe as they run off the WINCE 4.2Net opperating system that the Oziexplorer program can be loaded on them along with topo maps etc. Is this the case or are they simply a larger version of an ordinary on road navigator. With a 7" screen it makes them larger than the Hema navigator yet not block half the dash like a laptop does.

I have one that looks identical to that but has no bluetooth.
On mine the nav program is totally on the sd card. OziexplorerCE and maps on the sd card works fine. sd card only, not sdhc so limited to 2gb card.

Most of the stuff in this writeup is unnecessary.

On my unit :-
copy OziCE to SD card
Goto setup menu and point navigator at ozi executable file.

All done.

Thanks Marty. Interesting thread with plenty of tech advice.
Appears Lex that each unit often has a different setup but in general all are good to run Ozi. Which particular model did you get as your basic instructions are how I was hoping it could be done?

Ive found the easiest way was to have several cards, One with IGO8, another 2 with Ozi with different Maps on there. I couldnt fit all my maps on one 2gb card so have multiples.

When I want to change to the other set of maps or between Ozi & IGO I just switch cards & restart the program. I dont want to frig around with changing settings while driving, its much easier to just change the card.

Hi Craig

Is it for the Jeep or the Cruiser?

I have one for the Cruiser, Ozi (demo) runs on the card as per Lex states albeit with the 2Gb restriction as per ddr. Difficult to read in full sunlight. Different unit & vendor but very similar.

Personally found it too large for the dash of the 100 series so now my dad has a new GSP in the Camry! He loves IGO, removed Ozi.

Several cards with different maps would certainly be the go.
Setting up the Jeep at the moment Steve which has a dash insert I can mount it to but will probably make a mount on the passenger side above the glovebox on the 100 series as well just in case the JK self combusts & have to go back to the old trusty Toyota ;-)) A large screen doesn't bother me as it's only for moving map on trips not as a daily navigator.

Recently purchased a 4.3" version from Ebay as I was advised that the 7" may be a little overkill - large on dash, more vibration/weight on suction cup mount, illumination annoyance at night ( a personal opinion ). The intended purpose for mine was predominantly to be a reversing camera with an A/V input.
With the one I purchased I have found other limitations - nice clear screen with a good picture - but it has a shiny screen and suffers from glare horribly. My uniden with its antiglare screen is much easier to see on the sunny days.
I have to remember to switch it off. Unlike my Uniden it does not auto shutdown and start up with the ignition. If I do not switch it off it will flatten the internal battery and sometimes loose all the setup details and screen calibration.
Mine is WinCE5 but the operating system is in Chinese with no english option. Whilst the navigation program is in English if you want to use explorer or control panel everything is in Chinese. Some of the operating systems are locked and require a fair amount of manipulation to change things - you need to look on sites like the Navsoon forum to nut them out.

Gaday Craig. As I intend to use it mainly with topo maps during the day & not as a turn by turn navigator the 7" screen is wanted to get some reasonable detail. Would custom build a mount to intergrate with the dash as there has been discussion elsewhere of the suction cups breaking offroad. Your comments on the Chinese opperating system are important. Hopefully with an Australian seller they will be in English. Certainly worth asking.
Thanks Craig.........

Craig, it should by the look of it. It is running iGo, a version of the NavNgo software I have on my VMS. I am running OziExplorer on it where it came with MemoryMap. You may have to convert your maps over to a different format, but in most cases that is little drama.

I should have said that the NavNgo software is pretty damn good navigational software but is dependent on the maps loaded. I think I have two mapping sets so far including Sensis which misplaces roads.

Seems a fair deal as it includes a reverse camera.

Have a look here if you want to buy the same thing but not from Flea bay.
