The issue of the drums at Fenton Base
Camp has been flashing all over Australia and around the world, not only from me but another EO Member, Thanks Crazy Dog , there has been many wayout and wild guesses but thanks for trying the ones who were wrong, Even I was very sceptic as to the drums being Latrines, I think Barbara Gotham of the
380th Bomb Group
Association at Indiana, USA has been corresponding around the world too, I recieved this email from Barbara this morning that puts the subject to rest. It's a copy of an email she recieved from Bob

Hi Barb,
The 'mystery drums' are latrines - they are a standard RAAF design of No 12
Survey and Design Unit based at
Katherine. They would probably have been installed as part of the works undertaken by the Australians prior to the RAAF occupying Fenton following the move to
Darwin by the 380th Bomb Group.
Hope this clarifies things.
Cheers,

Hi Doug
It's great to see you got to the BOTTOM of it, as a Plumber I am
glad we dont use them now, they would be heavy to move around.
Cheers

Doug,
whilst serving in Baidoa Somalia in early 1993 our Dunnies were all half 44's, the contents were burnt every morning by a Somali work team using dieso.

Doug,
Why no follow up on this post or the other about bombing of
Darwin etc.? They are really interesting. My old mate David Thompson crashed his bomber on a delivery run into
Darwin... the crash demolished the out house on a remote NT property. The Government compensated the station owner by building a new Brick Shisenhousen. Story goes that the family moved out of the house and into the outhouse!

Guy
