Hi all, I have a 1996 multivalve landcruiser and I am having an issue with diesel leaking from the injector pump. I have a price on repairing and it can start from $700 and skyrocket to $3000 depending on what they find. I also have a price on a genuine toyota injector pump for $2200. I was wondering if anyone has had the same problem and what they did, and if it would be worthwhile just getting a new pump instead of replacing the seals in the old one? Thanks

I think you need to remove the pump and make a call after inspectng it. It has to come off anyhow, once it's off you can look at your options.

$2200 sounds like a good price.Where is the leak coming from, if its only out of the top? cover, I believe you can get an oring for about $15 to fix it.

Hi, it is the multivalve model and you can't get to the o-ring from the top the only way to do it is remove the hole pump, Also, I'm not to sure if it is just from the top. My dad is a pretty good at mechanical things and tried to get to it from the top but no luck!

How many kms has it done, if its up around 150000kms, its due for a pump rebuild and then Id go for the new one as a rebuild will cost close to or more.

150000 for a pump rebuild? Most pumps would just be bedded in by then?
thats not much given that the engine seems to be quite
well thought of?

In a perfect enviroment maybe. Our pump and injectors needed a full rebuild at 62000kms.Diesel Injection workshops reccomend having the pump removed and checked around 150000kms.

I wouldn't think the rebuild would be more than $2200.
I had the pump rebuilt on the 1HDT for $1200 which included new cam and bearings and springs etc.
A lot of pumps started leaking a couple of years back when BP introduced the low sulphur fuel as it dried out the gaskets.. is yours possibly from a fuel issue also?
A friend of
mine had a pump that leaked when using BP fuel but stopped soon after using a different brand. Guessed it had something to do with the gaskets revitalising somewhat.
Either way I wouldn't think your pump will cost more than $2200 to rebuild.... maybe
check into swap over cost of rebuilt pump.

f the motor is making good power, you will get away with 700ish if you go to the right place. I fixed
mine which was leaking in two
places, the diesel mech told me to wash down, start and watch where its leaking from. From what you find, you can decide whether to change one oring for $50 or rebuild,
mine has 280kms on it and it is really in need of a rebuild. I too wonder if 2300 is worth doing, considering you can always sell he old pump to people wanting to convert their hdfte's (100 series electric) to hdft's (as u have)

I have just over 200thouskms on my car so I am thinking that a new pump might be a good idea then I can rule out any further leaks with old 'o' rings down the track. My vehicle hasn't been converted to hdft (whatever that is) it is the original fitting for the multivalve turbo!

My 1HZ injector pump was leaking, turned out to be the O rings, cost $1150 to fix for the reason as stated above that u have to pull the whole pump apart to get to them.
150,000 km.
I went out the back of his
shop and had a look at another one that was being pulled apart and would agree that there was ALOT of parts inside those babies!! The major cost is obviously the labour involved
IMO
