Was on another site and the question was asked "just deciding which 4wd to buy diesel or petrol icurrently have anissan patrol 3ltr with dytronic chip fitted done 140000k no problems towing regent extreme 20 ft full van also carry 3.75 seajay on top of patrol current towing ecomony is 14/16lts /100k around town approx 11lts/100k we travell approx 5000per yr towing 10000normal driving with the current petrol diesel price and the extra purchasecosts of diesel 4wd is diesel still the way to go i am looking at landcruiser v8 or 4,2 turbo diesel or wait for new nissan patrol i have no alliance to either as both are good 4wd i would appreciate any constructive advise'
Yeah....all in one breath....pant pant....anyway the discussion got quite personal and heated....passionate replies about this one and that one etc....but as I was driving today I saw several lanscruiser utes set up as tugs and I remembered that there were a lot of people out there that use the humble utility as their tug choice....not wagons nor dual cabs but 6 cylinder landcruiser and nissan utes...lots of them and wll set up too AND they are NOT in for the economy either...I know I own one too.
So I have to ask...Why do they make this choice and never complain or whinge or try to justify their choice. Certainly not from comfort or safety.
Makes you think doesn't it.

Redbakk,
The beauty of it all is people do buy the red one or the white one, the 6/8/or 4cyl, petrol/diesel/gas , big tyres/skinny tyres, utes/wagons/troopcarriers and most of them say that is what they want and everyone else can go jump.
It's great cause wouldn't it be boring with all setups being the same, we wouldn't even be able to bag each other out about which vehicle we choose.
Have a good one cause I am off to buy some Coopers and a Weaco and a Kia

I hope that in years to come I can drive a, preferably landcruiser or patrol ute towing my luxury,
well set up camper trailer.Having come to 4wd's after spending all my youthful earnings on motorbikes and airplane tickets. I reckon those utes are the toughest things you can buy. Carry loads more than my hilux with kids and tow something.Heaven.

You can't help but feel that it is because they are so practical, can carry so much and allows the owner to develop the vehicle into what the individual requires.

"Why do they make this choice and never complain or whinge or try to justify their choice"
Possibly because when one makes the right choice & buys the best vehicle for the job they don't need to complain. It's usually those on a budget that have bought a vehicle or equipment mainly on price that end up trying to justify the purchase.
But then again are you not trying to get others to justify your purchase (I know I own one too) by posting this thread ;-)
Cheers Craig.............
