Doing the Bridle Track in January with the family, any suggestions on some good camp spots would be great.

Cheers
Willy

Hi Willy
As you come from Bathurst there are approx. 3 large well mown campsites beside the river with no water and compost toilets. I think the last one before the road and Maquarie River get into the hills is called Black Gates. It will be hot but the river usually flows and is good for a swim. I've enjoyed a few good camps up there over the last few years.

There are a couple of good spots along the river before you get to The Bluff which does not leave a lot of room for passing vehicles travelling the other way.
The grass is a bit long at both sites when I was up there a couple of weeks ago after all the rain, we are still having the occasional heavy fall (good stuff). Be careful at both sites as there are one of two washaways (blocked by heavy logs) where some months back someone had dragged a log clear so they could test the 4WD out and left without replacing the log.
I will be going back up there in the next couple of weeks to do some photography so I'll make sure I get a few of the camp sites along the way.
BTW what are you towing as caravans and similar are banned from the track.

Gday Willy, There used to be some good spots on the Hill End side if the causeway but they seem to be overgrown and what is reasonable still, is very ordinary. There is however 2 compost toilets on the hill End side of the river. There is a sign saying no trailers heading down the Bridle track from Hill End so if you are towing, you may need to come in from the other end. Better campsites now are on the other side of the Causeway!! Michael
