For all the Western Australian's that got up today to read the West news paper & turn to our little write up by Rob Robson.

To read a story about "unthinging idiots" cutting down of gates with angle grinders to get Access to closed tracks in the south west Wellington National Park.

When these people get older they will winge that there is nowhere to go 4W driving

For Members there is a PDF file of the story in Members FileSwap

This is my winge for the day

Richard....same at Buffalo beach and Belvedere...Calm built toilets, composting type etc for around $300,000 each....the vandals burnt them to the ground...not there any more...just holes in the ground.

Don't know what the answer is...can't seem to reach these people.

Ever been following another car when you see them just throw their rubbish out the window....why do they do that?????

What gets me is that people will drive for hundreds of K's to escape the rat race and find some pristine piece of our country and then do their upmost to mess it up with all the rubbish they leave behind.

This is ontop of the wanten destruction they do. How often do we see signs of some moron doing donuts in a salt lake or flat piece of grassland, or cutting new tracks for the hell of it.

It would be nice not to be swear out loud and really say what I'd love to say about the senseless and disrespectfull morons that now seem to frequent our favorite and yet to be visited spots.

Pressed the wrong button oops. What I meant to say was-

It would be nice to be able to swear out loud, (and dodge the mods bullet), and really say what I'd love to say about the senseless and disrespectful morons that now seem to frequent our favourite, and yet to be visited spots.

That makes more sense.

Hi Richard, bit about it in the current issue of Western 4WDriver.

Also check out Perth 4x4 forums, their really going to town on this one.

Played down there a couple of times and hope to take a couple of friends who have recently bought 4x4s down for a trip soon.

Thats if were allowed in after this incident.......bastards.

Cheers.....Lionel.

G'day Lionel and others

Sadly the town of Newman is also going through a spate of unbelievably sensless vandalism.

Not only within the town but very sadly at waterholes, people strive to escape to.

It's possibly a lack of social pride if there is such a thing anymore.

Joe.

Saw the old road through Spicers Gap near Brisbane get detroyed years ago by these clowns who "want" a 4x4, rather than "need" a 4x4.

All the timber cord laid down for bullocky & stagecoach traction god knows how long ago ripped up by twits trying to emulate an extreme sport or vehicle sales video.

Maybe ... just maybe, the minority of troublemakers wouldnt be as common as they are, if 4x4s were still 4x4s instead of being portrayed as a family car nescessity and built like one.

Not too sure about this oztroopy, as the people who buy them as luxury 'offroad' vehicles are more often than not the family guy who just wants to get away with his kids on the weekends and for a couple of holidays each year.

From what I have seen (and I wont classify all into this category), but the ones who build extreme machines with 37" Bogzillas and 27" of suspension lift etc are mainly the culprits in these circumstances. Their use of the vehicle is an end in itself, not a means to an end. The type who go looking for the steepest hill climb and the deepest bog hole, then spend an hour 'playing' in it! Clearly this shows no respect for the environment and the whole point of them getting away is to use their car for the most extreme 'fun' they can find, with no interest in the actual scenery, points of interest or respect for other people who may like to see what they've just torn up.

Don't get me wrong, though, I have no problem with this sort of mentality IN THE APPROPRIATE PLACES, such as private property and specific 4WD parks.....just NOT our forests and National Parks.

Gets up my nose too.

Cheers,

Mark

G'day Mark E,

Probably should have been a bit more specific.

Modern 4x4s are appealing to the masses primarily because of marketing and media ... Many people buy them now because of the interiors performance - not the exterior drivetrain performance.

I acknowledge that there are plenty who still need a vehicle to get to favourite fishing / camping / long distance, touring destinations or as a work / towing vehicle ... I am one of them and I'm sure there are a few others on this forum ... lol

Plenty of "genuine" needs for all sorts of different people ... I guess even those who just "want" a 4x4 ... "need" it to be able to tear up the scrub.

>" 37" Bogzillas and 27" of suspension lift etc " .... almost like some of the descriptions I have had come to mind ... lololol

A lot of the damage I have seen, has actually been caused by some yahoo in an ... ex "family guys" trade in, with no modifications ... A responsible driver in one of those "monster trucks" will do a lot less damage than I will do with my fairly std vehicle ... note that I said responsible. ( wink )

You are certainly right for the most part tho ... with the current trend of extreme sports style vehicle modifications and the associated attitude ... the majority should be playing at a suitable facility as you say ... Sadly, there are not many using all those modifications to quietly achieve accessibility in areas with less fuss than a standard vehicle can.

As with all things ... firearms / steel cut off wheels / 4x4s etc ... its not so much the tool itself that is an issue ... its the tool in control of it.
