Just got back from what I think is the best trip that I do through out the year.
This trip had 6 trees that had to be cut and removed from the tracks between
Bright and where we camped for two nights, at
King Hut.
On the way to
Lake Cobbler we saw Dandongadale Falls, the tallest
water fall in Victoria, at it's best.
On the down side
King Hut was burnt to the ground a few months ago.
Park Rangers think that it may have been walkers as all the gates to that area were locked. Looks like a fire was built in the fire place and then got out of hand.

All the rivers in the area were up a little and flowing very quick. We were lucky that the weather was good although the cloud build up of a night didn't amount to much.
Bluff Hut has been finished, a lot smaller that before, but still very comfortable.

Along
Bluff track there was still patches of snow under the Snow Gums and even more snow at Howitt's Hut.
Someone thought it would be a good idea to graffiti the outside wall of the hut.I didn't take a photo as this is what this "person" wants.
I believe that Howitt's Hut is the 3rd oldest hut in the High Country and is the site of where one of the bodies from the Wonnangatta murders was found back in the late 1800's. It would have to be in one of the most picturesque parts of the
Vic High Country.
The strong wind that had bought down trees in the first part of the trip had not reached Wonnangatta Valley. The last thing that I wanted was to be driving up Herne Spur and have a tree across the track.
The Crooked River has changed the river crossings with a big hole in the third crossing from
Talbotville Camp Ground.

A vehicle had come to grief the day before when a camper had driven his vehicle into the hole instead of driving around it.
The rest of the tracks that we used were all good but the weather came back to finish the last day early. With steady to heavy rain over night and low cloud McMillan's Track was used to get out of
Talbotville Camp Ground.

Excellent report Wayne. Sounds like you had a good trip.
Looking forward to going back up there soon as I was there over Cup Weekend.

Great report Wayne.
We were up that way over the weekend too & the bush was looking pretty good with the last few weeks of rain. Certainly quite a few trees down despite 4 Wheel Drive Victoria's Track
Clearing weekends in the weeks leading up to the opening so a chainsaw is certainly an important bit of gear to carry.
"

Rangers I spoke to believe it was more likely
deer hunters who have an increasing habit of driving around barriers & ignoring track closures.
Cheers Craig......
