Hi All,

I am looking at purchasing a new set of tyres for a trip at Xmas to Alice, Kings Canyon, Plenty Hwy to Birdsville then onto Fraser Island.

My Choices are:

All 245/65/17 sizes going on a VW Touareg

Dunlop A/T 3, Geolander A/T-S Yokohama or Bridgestone D694-LT

Thoughts??

Thanks Wheaters

Wheaters go the Bridgestone OZ made LTs not the Japanese ones, the oz made ones have a stronger side wall and better mileage.

My cars have done close to 800000 km on 265/75/16s 693s, I wont buy anything else.

Run them at 40 psi front and 42 rear except on Frazer.

3 punctures 2 blow-outs 16 sets on 7 cars average mileage was 65000 70% dirt corrugated roads up North.

Cheers Steve.

Apparently the AT/S yoko is another good tyre?

Yep, good tyre, been using them for the past 8 years on a GU. Only had two flats from tec screws in three sets during that time.

Can't go past the Kumho 245/65 R17's 107H load/speed kl16 ST tread pattern - should be able to get em round $240-285 per corner from Tyrepower depending which tread pattern.

You can get em with KL51LPT tread if you want.

Material Code
1810223 - KL16 ST tread pattern
1859413 - KL51 LPT tread pattern

You guys with your Dunlop, Yoko, BS, Mickey T's etc are only paying a premium for the advertising is all.

Kumhos are bought in Korea with AUs $ and are generally better tyres cheaper than the aforementioned brands - even these will be due a price rise probably just after Xmas so - get in quick if you want value for money!

Kumhos are the leading seller in the country at the moment and not for no reason - value for $ is the answer.

Cheers

The Bridgstone I mention above, they are $215 each, talk about value for money.

Bridgestone for me, its like comparing chalk and cheese. I have yet too see a decent Kumho tyre, plus the Bridgestones are Aussie made, an allround winner. But buy from Tyrepower not Bridgestone Tyre Centres. I get mine at least $30 cheaper per tyre from Tyrepower.

Ok we are talking 17" rims

Kumho
No KL17,
KL51 have low load ratings and the spreadsheet is stuffed up on the web.
Only option is KL78, which is 113load rated

No mention of ply rating or LT construction that I could see

Im looking for something for a Patrol too and pricing on Cooper ST-C has become crazy @ $400 each
Ive had an exceptional run from these, had three sets, 85'000km plus from each set of four tyres.

I have heard a whisper that in early 2009 Bridgestone will be releasing a D694-LT in 17". If you can hang on these may be worth waiting for??
