Yes I have the safari d-tronic chip on my 3 litre turbo Patrol. It gives a good increase in power and economy providing you don't stick the boot into it. Particularly good for that bit of extra power when towing.
These chips provide the power boost by allowing the fuel management system to dump more fuel into the motor. The downside of this is that you get much hotter temperatures when the vehicle is under strain (like towing a van or trailer up
hill) and more fuel being burnt means more exhaust gases that need to be evacuated by the same old exhaust pipe therefore a build up in pressure and heat in the motor.
It's reccomended that if you put a chip on your vehicle, you should also upgrade the exhaust system to a larger diametre to facilitate the removal of the extra gases. You should also look at having a pyrometre type gauge fitted fore of the turbo on the outlet manifold, or slightly aft of the turbo on the exhaust outlet. This will allow you to keep an eye on the temperature and back off if it heads into the "death zone".
There is a lot of relevant info if you do a search on the Nissan Patrol
forum.
HERE is the link
Cheers
Mick

you don't need the bigger exhaust it makes a good improvement by itself but with the 3" exhaust and a K&N filter I got 12% power increase at the back
wheels amazing

Hey Bonz,
What type of filter is the K&N? I went back to the standard Nissan filter because of the MAF sensor and the fact that some non standard filters caused problems with it.

Hi Mick its a foamy type thing with oil in it, it works a treat, its higher flow than the old paper or oily ones and re-usable.
