Separation Well - Canning Stock Route

Hi to all, would like to hear from travellers that have made the side trip out to Separation Well from the CSR. What were your thoughts and was it worth the detour.

Thanks for your replies.

Cheers

Made that side trip in August. Typical CSR type track with corrugations between mostly low dunes. It was very dry there this year so the country was not that appealing. It is 34ks off the main track and will probably take you the best part of an hour and a half each way. There is a plaque and the well is a hole in the ground and I can't actually recall whether it had a centimetre or two of muddy water (or watery mud) in the bottom ... that might have been somewhere else.

Hope this is of help

Stephen,

Went out to Separation Well a few years back. I have not worried about going out to the well on recent trips.

A slow trip will the typical corrugations, low sand dunes and spinifex grass as high in the middle as it was on the side of the track. A lot of time was spent clearing grass from the under body of all the vehicle in the convey.

If you feel like I did at the time and want to go just to say you have been there and then able to answer a post like yours then go for it. Just watch out for the tall spinifex grass.

Hi Wayne
Thanks very much for your valued reply. We are planning a trip up that way next August and I am well into the planning stage. I have allowed 1 days travel as a side trip to Separation Well. When one travels many thousands of kilometres from home, a 70 kilometre detour is a very minor out of the way detour. We are no strangers to cross country travel and spinifex, having made a cross country trip of the Simpson of couple of years back, over 400 kilometres of no tracks at all, through Geosurvey Hill and the Geographical Centre and out through Poeppels Corner.

Once again, thanks for your reply.

Regards

Stephen

Stephen,

I should be out on the Canning again in June next year.

I hope to, as I did this year, phone back track reports to be placed on this forum.

What way do you plan to travel, South/ North or North/ South?

Wayne, we'd love the track reports, but perhaps you should show your wife how to enter them into the trek note feedback for the CSR page - this will keep the info in the trek and it can also be linked to the forum (as for all article comments/feedback). Also , perhaps you can convince her to write up a blog for you and post those - again every time a blog is entered, a link to it is automatically put at the very top of the forum index page (for those that need triggers to pull themselves away from the forum).
