Recently ordered HR Intermediate hitch for 2008 Forester towing an Off road Jayco Finch. They were unable to fit it successfully and in the end gave up.

Before I go into detail, is there anyone on this forum using this combo of HR intermediate hitch with Off road Jayco?

You dont give us any idea of what the problem is so we have no idea of how to help. My guess is that you have run into issues with the depth of the A frame on the van. If the tow hitch is across the bottom of the A frame, the HR sits to low to the ground. If the tow hitch sit at the top of the A frame you dont have enough clearance for the bars off the HR.

The only solution around this that I found with my own van is to mount the tow hitch on the van about half way up the A Frame. This will raise the HR above the ground with enough clearance and still allow the bars to work as they should

Thanks for the reply Lewis. I just didn't think it was worth going into the nitty gritty if no-one was using the setup.

You have got it one though, the problem is the size of the A frame. Thanks for the advice.

The only solution is to re-mount the hitch plate.

The plate that the towball connector (or hitch) at the front of the van is bolted to. You need to have it removed and height adjusted and rewelded in place in the A frame

Yeah, what Graham said.

I uploaded some pics to show you but photobucket had a brainfart and now I can't find them. Sorry.

Hi Mintrax

We have an off road Coromal Magnum 340, weighs around 980kg empty and probably around 1250-1300kg loaded. We tow this with a 2005 X Forester coupled with a HR Treg Hitch and weight distribution hitch(s) to level the load.
Caravans to Go at Bathurst fixed ours up and I could not believe the little Subie would survive, he made me reverse the whole thing up a very steep driveway into his premises so he could explain how it all worked. It cost me a few bucks but now everything is in order, but I have learned not to stop half way up steep little inclines because it makes getting going again difficult sometimes.
Mate I don't know if I'm even on the right track, but i am a Subaru convert and I observe all the wisdom spread on this site, I thought it was about time I gave something back.
I hope this has been of some help, because we did it OK.

Thanks to all for the helpful advice. I will raise the hitch as suggested and report back the results. Thanks again.
