I intend to fly to Cairns and stay with Crazy Dog for a few days then pick up the OKA and drive it home running it in as I go.

What would be the best route back to Darwin.

Cheers Steve.

This for work, it will become my second OKA.

The motor is a Perkins and just been rebuilt, so it will be a slow trip home running it in.

The guy I bought it off has just ordered 3 new ones, They are 170000 cab chassis and 220000 for the bus, the come with a Cummins and an Alison auto I believe.

Cheers Steve.

Steve

Take the run via Normanton down to the Curry and Isa back home. You could also take the Ranken Road(30km west of Avon Downs) and Barkly Stock Route for a shortcut to Elliott or go via Cape Crawford to Daly Waters Highway Inn junction with the Stuart Hwy. The stock route roads are normally in good condition though I am not sure how much rain has fallen in the area recently.

Cheers

Steve,

I'd go across the top but since that is what you do most of the time I suggest the blacktop.

Remember the diesel rule. Care for it like you love it but drive it like you hate it. Constant idle - light running - is a diesel's worst enemy.

Can you still buy new OKA's? I thought the WA company went broke years ago? Like to know.

What sort of fuel consumption do Okas give? A good friend reckons he does really well. (I forget - 14l/100? I really can't recall) Is he yanking my chain?

Hi Jeff

I don't do miles per gallon or litres per km, but the Oka I have is $50 dearer on fuel over 3 tours than the 1hz GXL, the obvious difference is 7 more persons per tour 1 less driver.

2 years ago I ran 4 GXLs, the GXLs do 3 tours before a refill with fuel,
this year I ran 2 GXLs and the OKA, the Oka does 4tours before a refill, next year it will be 2 Okas and 2 Turbo GXLs.

Cheers Steve.

Steve,
That seems to correlate. I'm amazed that such a large machine does so well. Thanks for reply.
