1997 80 series Diesel Cruiser - what were they new?

Anyone know what the non turbo cruiser diesel was new in the last of the 80 series built in 1997 and licensed early 1998 when the 105's came out?

I know the red book values low.

I saw one thats a plumb advertised recently for $38 K - a one owner pensioner vehicle always garaged and only done 40,000km;s.

Its a real peach - but I don't think it's worth the asking price of $38K due to lack of factory turbo and its 11 years of age (parts only mandatory thru toyota for 10 years after production).

While it might look 7 drive like new - the factis it is 100 years old and the price should reflect that aspect despite all the good points

So whats it really worth, whats a realistic offer price?

1997 with 40,000km;s one owner not a scratch on it! It presents as new basically - oil changes every 1500kms!

Cheers

Geoff,
You're right - Redbook lists the price when new:
$50,480 for a 1997 HZJ80 Std or
$51,880 for a 1997 HZJ80 DX

Cheers

Its an absolute buyers market ATM even an immaculate car like that would not be worth 20k on todays market. A factory turbo on a 97 in that condition and mileage until recently would fetch high $20s. At $38k hes dreamin I would sell my 2002 turbo 5 speed auto in immaculate cond for close to that and far superior car to drive.

Thanks Geoffe

$56100 new eh!

about $11K s/hand today with average 165 000 - 275 000 km's!

So even say $25K would be a "generous" offer?

$38 just seems so over the top - I'm sure the ol guy loves his cruiser......but theres a LOT of nice 100 series 4.2 TD's available for that sorta coin!

Cheers

It wouldn't pull the skin off a custard without a turbo. They were real slugs.

It's worth what you are prepared to pay for it as there wouldn't be anything to compare it with if it's as good as you say.

$38,000 sounds way too much

One of my relatives got one recently for 22k (GXL) model - it came with aftermarket turbo and some bits. (Nearly 300k on clock)

Its being worked up with homemade bits , like exhaust - probably water cooled intercooler , not sure yet.

Everytime I pass it uphill in the Patrol - we have another "how can I fix this thing" session !

If you like this thing, ring your Tojo dealer & ask for a trade price on a new one....add maybe $5k, & thats your price.....oldbaz.

If it is a GXL it will probably go for around 30k, wether it is worth it or not is another matter - but there are a great vehicle and at 40,000km plenty of service left for the money. Not too many left like that and was one of the last comfortable but very robust cruisers.

I think they were about the 55k mark.

I got a secondhand 94 model in 96 with 50000km and paid 43k

It has to be worth a fair bit less than a turbo.

My 94 model non-turbo with 320k on it can only be worth about 5k or so

A pristine 97 maybe stretching to make 30k

Dude, its been for sale for ever and will be for ever...its worth every cent if you want an 80 with 40kms...there was also a 60 series gxl with 40kms for 40k....the math dont add up...for 40k, i would be looking at a 2006 td42 patrol and 10k left over for accessories...the 97 80 series t/d was 75k new...i think the 1hz was 49990.

Hi Flywest
I have the same vehicle that you are looking at. According to the vin number mine was built only about a couple of weeks before production started on the 100 series, so I would say mine was one of the last. I bought it in early 1999 as an ex goverment vehicle at auction with 50000 km and paid just over $30 000, I believe they were around $51000 new. Mine is still in pretty good shape and has still only done 130000km. I guess it would only be worth around the $15000 mark, not that I would want to sell it anyway, to good a vehicle, unless some one was offering $38 000.
Regards Jon
