Mate has Landcruiser HJ 60 which has a vibration set in at around 90-100 kph and has recently discovered it vibrates extremely bad when put in neutral. It is not a steering vibration and mainly in the drive. Has any one experienced this problem and can lead in a hopefully simple solution?

hi have you checked the universal joints? dropping it into neutral takes the load off them letting the play become more noticeable.

Thanks for your reply, we will pass your information on, as the universal sounds to be the thing to look at. He is going through the vehicle with a fine toothed comb, as he has had the vehicle only a few months and has found a number of small problems that need fixing while checking for this vibration. So is bound to give the universal a more thorough check. Thanks Geoff and Jen

I did the back uni on my 60 last weekend vibration gone, i also noticed that where the tail shaft slides in and out of it's self had developed an airlock, and it was pressuirsing the tail shaft. ie not allowing it to slide in and out freely. I pulled out the grease nipple and crud blew out with a pop. this pressure may have been adding to the vibration.

The vibration started at about 85km/h

Unis are fairly cheap from a bearing type shop and relatively simple to install, just don't let the little pins fall over or we will here you swearing for a mile around.

Well, its sounds as though the problem could be the same as what you experienced. When he did a check on the sliding joint yesterday it didn't have any grease, so it could be a start to the problem. We will pass your info on to him and go from there. Thanks for your reply, Geoff & Jen
