Ok Ladies & Gentlemen, who out there has a preference, to
Home Brew, and when you pack your 4wd or Camper Trailer / Van
ect, do you make sure that your Brew is carefully placed so it
doesn't EXPLODE like Nitro, and then when you do get to drink
your Brew, do you carefully wash your bottles and pack them away
for the trip home, I know a few Gals and Guys who go through this
procedure on a regular basis, I for one don't, if it's not in a Can,
I wont take it on the Holiday or Trip, then again my Cook is
different, she will pack her favourite Wines in the Van along with
the Spirits, and I will help empty the Bottles lol.lol. she has a special
Cupboard to contain these gems, and so far none has been spilt,
Now some of you Travellers out there must have your own way of
protecting your Bottled Liquid Amber or Reds ect, when you
explore this great Country, or do you only drink at home, lol lol.

Cheers

This sounds like a familiar story. Being that we travel in a camper trailer are space is somewhat limited but like you I only take cans.

Of course the Minister for War and Finance enjoys her bottled wine and spirits. I have found spots in the rear drawers and have even been known to store bottles on the Abar tool box to ensure they fit in....lol

It is amazing how we are all able to find the space for our precious cargo.....

The Cook has a way with packing stuff, one of these days I'll write
out a list, next to the Drink the First Aid Cupboard is like a Chemist
Shop.

I packed two cartons of stubbies in the van each with two layers of left over pool cover taped to the bottom.
We done Brisbane, Innamincka,The Flinders Ranges via Moolawatana Station then Yunta via Martins Well (then I run out) but did not waste a drop.
When they went into the fridge they already had a Stubbie Holder on them.
This system has worked a treat for many such trips.

Hmmmm Daza

An ode to imbibers....LOL

The horse and mule live thirty years
And nothing know of wines and beers;
The goat and sheep at twenty die,
With never a taste of scotch or rye;
The cow drinks water by the ton,
And at eighteen is mostly done.
Without the aid of rum or gin
The dog at fifteen cashes in;
The cat in milk and water soaks,
And then at twelve years old it croaks;
The modest, sober, bone-dry hen
Lays eggs for nogs and dies at ten;
All animals are strictly dry;
They sinless live and swiftly die,
While sinful, gleeful, rum-soaked men
Survive for three score years and ten.
And some of us - a mighty few -
Stay pickled 'till we're ninety-two.

Good luck with the Home Brew!!!

Cheers

Place faith not in tomorrow

Hey Willem, I have a picture in my head of you sitting in a dark dingy bar somewhere in Swaziland.

Hat falling of the back of your head, bloodshot eyes, sweat dribbling into your drink, reciting this ode to a bunch of disinterested tribesmen....spears to be left at the door...lol.

The barman, Idi Amins 3rd cousin, spits into a glass, wipes it clean with an old pair of jocks and pours you another one.

Ahhh...the power of imagination......hahaha.

Cheers......Lionel.

Ah Lionel

That may have been so in the dim past but presently, as you may already know, these days I reside in a sleepy country village just a tad south of the Flinders. The place has 4 pubs, none of which I visit (apart from the drive-through bottle-O) on a regular basis.

I prefer to sit with my feet up under the vineyard at my place contemplating just how hurtful the gout will be tomorrow if I have just one more drink.....LOL

Cheers

Being a homebrewer for 26 years I have the ideal solution for travelling with your homebrew.
Put it in PET bottles. They will NOT explode or if they fall over will no break. It is better to use the brown PET bottles from homebrew shops than the clear "Coke" bottles. Homebrew stored in clear PET bottles will go off if it is exposed to any light source after a while.
I have taken my homebrew to the tip of Cape York and across to WA for a 5 wek trip a few years ago. I live in Bathurst and do a lot of camping and always use PET bottles when I am on the road.
I do sometimes use kegs if on short trips but on a long trip always the PET bottles.
Some homebrewers think that the beer is no good in plastic but I can assure you that if you give someone a beer who says they don't like beer in plastic then they have no idea what they are talking about. For example I have tried a few times to my mates the same homebrew out of a PET bottle and a glass bottle and if they don't see you pour it in a glass they will have no idea.
Cheers and beers

We have friends that make Home Brew and have it in Kegs,
they have a Temprite set up in there Fifth Wheeler, he even has a
Bayonet Fitting he can plug into under his out side Awning,
so he doesn't have to go inside to refill his Jug, the bugger also
has two types of Brew on board.

Daza, I am impressed by your friend.
I used to brew in kegs but went back to bottles as I found I couldn't drink it all quickly enough (hanging head in shame).

On a recent several month trip to the NW I was amazed at the number of grey nomads brewing their own, whilst actually away!
One guy in particular collected used bottles and re cycled them with his home brew!
They have it down to an art, and recon it was much cheaper than buying and (carrying) cartons.
Mind I figured having so much beer readily available did encourage excess in some.
Think I'll stick to my rationing system! that way my liver might last a bit longer!

Defitely take the brown PET bottles. That's all I use for my homebrew although I have used some old clear PET bottles if the beer is going to be consumed quickly.
The PET bottles won't explode or break. They are also light and can be stored alot easier than glass bottles or cans.
