As an active member of a club I am organising a weekend that is to incorporate an afternoon of fun driving activities. I'm not after anything that involves 4WDing as such - just driving challenges where members of any level of skill can compete just for fun. Other club members will probably have been involved with such events and will know what sorts of things I'm after - you know - who can park closest to a pole without actuually touching it, passenger side wheel closest to a particular spot etc. The events would need to be able to be held near camp - I have a huge paddock to work with. I'm hoping someone has something that I haven't used in the past. The Moose thanks you in advance for your help.

Moose, if you have enough open space a fun one to do is a blindfolded driver, low range first gear only, voice guided by navigator through a witches hat course. If you want to do it for competition I suppose you could time it. You could even do it it in both directions with seat swap at one end, driver for navigator. Sounds like you'll have a ball anyway.

Cheers,

Hilly

Hilly, if you really want to have some fun, the team in the car should be marital partners or what ever. Class action divorces following would also liven things up and be cheaper in bulk.Alpaca

Hi Moose,
One of the clubs had an event that took off the Daewoo barking dog ad. Directions for left right stop forward and rev were all by barking only. A CB with vox control was placed in the vehicle so that all could listen so there was not cheating, really made the event very interesting

Moose, another version of the vehicle placement thing is by having a stick about 300mm high out of the ground and the driver has to reverse up to it after completing a 90 degree turn and get their tow ball as close as possible with points added or deducted for overshooting the stick or too far away from one side. By keeping the stick short, the driver can't see it as if they are backing onto a trailer.
Have funAlpaca

Potatos on Witches hats.. on a course

Fridge to Fridge against clock Leave till last event as everyone will be pist at the end of it.

Nav Run where you put markers around with signs on them people have to write down whats on each thing in order, or they lose points.

Tent up and down comp against the clock

Tire changing against clock...

Flat tire repairs against clock

pack and unpack a car against clock

I'd suggest the letting wife drive ones, but I wouldnt want mine driving mine either ;)~

Try the Yarra Valley Club site, they have a gymkana every year, and could have some good info on there.

Hi Truckster
Could you elaborate on the first 2. What happens with the spuds and I assume the fridge to fridge involves consuming the contents but how does it actually run?
Thanks

Spud event.

Have a course, and cars have to go against clock, put LARGE spuds on witches hats that are lined up around the place not all on flat ground... they have to STAY on the hats until he is finished the course..

Fridge to fridge, like bridge to bridge, with lots of drinking involved... :)~

Hope you're a patient bugger. Please bear with me. I am not familiar with the "bridge to bridge" either. Please explain. Thanks again!

An event where you can get people to do ANYTHING.. With drinking between each section , but all in one event, no breaks!

Other options for events are

Map reading, same idea as orienteering..

Quick stretcher making and carry one team member along a course without dropping!

Building a fire without Matches...

Car Pull, have teams have to pull a car, like tug of war, with team on each end of car pulling different directions.

Another one is to position the front wheels of the vehicle on a line in the dirt. This can be done across-ways to "park" middle of the tyre across the rope and also lengthways. ie. Driver ability to drive say 20 yards along the length of the line without wandering off-line. For this one, a curve in the line adds to the challenge.

another one is to build a see-saw strong enough to take a 4wd, lot of fun trying to balance the vehicle, especially a swb.
