Well they do exist, this one's specs say it is 1.8Kw and runs on diesel. The only problem is the dry weight is 67kg, and unfortunatley a never heard of brand.
Nonetheless, everyone I know who drives a diesel and has a generator has always been interested in not carrying two types of fuel.

From the honda site
EU20i
Noise Level (dB-A7m): 59 / 54*
* = with eco-throttle on
and 52 dB for the EU10i
so yes that Diesel will sound like a train

Sounds (pun intended) like a good way to ensure ya have the campin' area all to yourself;-))
By way of camparison, the sticker on my (Stihl) 40cc chainsaw says 83 dBA @ 7.5 mtrs (the poor ol' operator gets 103 dBA)...

I believe that a lot of the larger motor homes have diesel generators, I know people that have a large motor home and it has one...not sure of the brand but I think one such brand is "Onan"...their genny gets a fair workout because the rig is all electric ...no gas in it at all....cheers

Porl, Yes they certainly do exist and as someone has already pointed out larger motor homes quite often run diesel gen sets. The two main problems are weight and noise, however if you are serious try a company called Allight, WA based but may also operate in other states. They were doing a smaller range of Kubota engine powered sets which by diesel standards are quiet. You may also find the price may be prohibitive.
Good luck

I used a 'small' air cooled diesel gennie for ages doing exploration work.
Misery - heavy, key start only and ridiculously loud. Wouldn't be cheap either I suspect.
Same reasons why diesel motorbikes never took off.
Honda, Honda or Honda in my opinion.
