G'Day all,
Many thanks to those who advised me to go with the 25amp charger, and to Geoff for his link.
4WD Extreme, as others said, def cheapest on ebay.
(no affiliation just happy customer)
Had a spare 100ah deep cycle which was getting a bit tired and had visible whiteness on plates, wouldnt reach max charge on a 2 stage projecta, and had a mega pulse on it for weeks.
It would get up in voltage but when a load on had no grunt, dropping voltage quickly and recovering quickly once load gone.
Testing with a hydrometer showed 4 cells just white, 2 red
Was ready to throw it, buy new one and new charger, so thought try the ctek as heard it was good.
Been on ctek a good few hrs and the white on plates dis appearing, and all cells are white nearing green on hydrometer, so looking like it actually does do the job.
Will let it finish and test with same load which was failing after 45mins before.
so far impressed.
Rgds
Ron

I've done the same with a couple of oldish batteries that have sat for 12 months. What I also found was that if after charging them initially and being on float for a few days was to stop charging them and let them sit for a few days.
This seems to allow them to stabilise/equalise and then I put them back on charge for another day or so and then they take a full charge
well up into the green on the hydrometer.
I've only got a 7 amp Ctek so takes me a bit longer.

Peter,
sounds good. Will prob do something similair. The CTEK's seem very good.
The 7 amp is a great charger too, only reason I went the 25amp was that I want to replace overnight light useage within 2-3 hrs of genny running whilst using air of a latter part of arvo.
I'm running Honda for 2-3 hrs on air to cool van down at end of day, then run fans on inverter overnight, next want to replace that battery useage whilst on air/genny next day ready to repeat.
7 amp does same job, just not as quick.
I will follow your procedure though n see how we go.
thanks for info
Ron
