Steve, I am going to Tassie over Christmas and January and contacted Tasmanian Fisheries and have been advised if I fish with rod and line in the river mouths and ocean, I do not need a licence. If fishing in inland waterways, permits are needed from the local authorities.

Hey steve you only need a license to fish on the inland water ways, the ocean and river mouths you dont req one.
Was there last year in jan took the car ferry over to bruny island its free if ya dont take the car and justed fished off the pier where you get off great fishing spot.

The lucky people that can travel all over AUSTRALIA in the one period of time (and it is ONE country) need to buy IN EACH state or territory, a right to fish at that time

You don't look like a pensioner but it you are check our the situation. Pensions don't need a license in NSW or Vic.

A freshwater Licence for Trout in Tassie is $36-00 for 12Mths for Pensioners. Purchased mine a week ago.
Salt water fishing with a line you won,t need a Licence but for Crayfish, Abalone, Scallops a Licence is required.

I was led to believe that if you had a "Seniors" card, you don't need a licence......best to check.
