Good Evening All

I would like to know the real life difference in fuel economy between the two vehicles. I am interested in 2003- 2004 era.

I will be towing a off road camper trailer and know the other benefits of diesel.

Your feedback will be appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

Check out www.pradopoint.com

Plenty of info on Prados, both 90 series and 120 series, including economy.

From that era the diesel was an old tech unit and pretty gutless compared to what others were offering.

By contrast the 4L V6 was a gem. Oodles of power and remarkably economical for a V6, owners report around 13L/100km. Diesel 10 to 11.

Think those figures are a tad optamisitic for towing offroad campers.
My sister and BIL as well as some freinds both in petrol prados 1 a 3.4 and one a 4.0 come over to the west for a visit the figures for both were over 20l per hundred

Jim,

You should have added they are much cheaper to run on gas.

Hi. around sept 04 the V6 auto went to 5 speed which improved the economy a bit more. I have a Nov 04 petrol. It averages 15 l/100k around town and 12l/100k on a trip. Towing a 1 tonne boat on a trip it averages 16l/100k. Regards, Bob.

Out of interest, the prices at the SA Govt Auctions have dropped considerably over the last couple of months. Buyers Market.
Prado prices at SA Govt auctions.

Pafac I tow a Roadstar caravan that has a fully loaded weight of around 1900kg. My V6 Prado auto got 14.9 l/100km on our last outing. From my point of view that is quite good for a large capacity petrol engine. Take the price of fuel into consideration and a petrol Prado is not that much dearer to run than a diesel.

Another consideration is that the diesel requires an oil change every 5000kms. When I owned my diesel I did every second oil chang myself. I bought a box of filters to make it more economical. But in terms of total cost of ownership I think the petrol came out on top. The 4l is supposed to be the pick of the bunch.
