I was last at Cape Leveque in July / August 2007 and when up there they were laying a lot of tarmac down.

Can anyone tell me where the tarmac begins and ends now?

Cheers,

Jason.

Jason,

The black top starts about 2k south of the Beagle Bay turn off. It is sealed all the way to Cape Leveque turn off.

Wow. That's amazing. So how long does a trip from Broome to Cape Leveque take now? I think it took us a little over 3 hours.

uneekwahn,

The rest of the road is dirt and does vary in condition. It is about 200k and the trip would still take over 2h 30m.

Amazing as I just finished posting a blog from our trip up there in Mid 2006 and it was a Hell road with only one stretch of bitumen. Amazing how quick they can spend the rate payers money if they want to!

Yep I can concur with Mick, it was a lovely patch of dirt then. Corrugations 450mm apart and about 200mm deep, then deep soft sand and then the road became v shaped. 2 hrs to do the notorious 87km stretch.

Wish I was on it now. LOL

I believe the roadworks were carried out by the ARMY giving engineers etc. first hand experience , if this was the case I say bring it on let there be more of this sort of spending of our money.

I disagree. As soon as the road is good the place will be crowded. Leave the corrugations and only the determined will go. After all why do we drive 4wd's.
