Garmin Nuvi 760 or Magellan Cross over GPS

I have narrowed my search for a GPS down to this model or the Magellan Cross over. I know there is already a lot of info regarding GPS's in general and i am sure Doug T will jump on this pretty quickly.

I intend to use the unit for both city and off road driving. By off road i mean Deserts, the Gulf, the cape etc (remote locality).

In regards to the Garmin 760 is it appropriate for off road and will it cope with millions of corrigations?

Will i have to up load further mapping soft ware to suit off road tracks.

Any feed back on the Magellan product would be great, all other suggestions also appreciated.

Thanks
Mark

kaymar,
I have a Garmin 760 and it has just done 7000 kms in the centre.

Some of it on the tar and some on very rough tracks. It also does 1000kms a week on various surfaces and to date without a problem.

The Oztopo maps were left wanting on more remote tracks, though this I am assured has been addressed in version 2.1. From looking at at the tracks on V 2.1 most seem to be there though I have not been able to field test. Not through lack of trying LOL.

The 760 works well both in the bush and around town.

Overall I like it.

Cheers

Check out the 4.3" screen GPSs on Ebay. I've got one that we used for the our long trip this year and it works fine. Runs Ozi CE with Hema maps as well as navigation program for round town. Much cheaper than either option you are currently looking at. Basically the same as the Hema navigator.

Morning all,

There are many different units on Ebay at the moment. I started by following the information on the Patrol forum here:GPS info on Patrol Forum

This is the Ebay seller I used: CNP Technology

You should be able to poick up the GPS unit for under $300.

Cheers

Hi Kaymar001,
I had a trial through a friend of the Magellan crossover unit and found it wanting.Firstly they failed to supply the correct soft wear and were less than helpful in fixing the problem.NEXT DESTINATION the company which imports or distributes had a poor attitude and in fact were quite rude in their attitude.I promptly handed the whole thing back and will be staying away from all things Magellan. It is disconcerting that when making a detour and facing the correct road in front of you to be told to do a U turn and go another way. This may be a peculiarity of some Gps units.Just my experience of course .Others may have received a more favorable result.

Regards, Paul
