Hi, I have recently purchased a Coromal Magnum 440 Off Road camper which I will be towing with a Ford Territory. The van as ATM of 1460Kg -GTM of 1350Kg and Tare weight of 1160Kg. I am trying to determine the BALL weight of this van. Can anyone advise me of this - i know it is bloody heavy..From all research it should be the difference between the ATM and GTM = 110Kg ( is this correct - doesn't seem right)
The height of the Treg Poly box is 16", but the height of the Hitch on the car is 18" - when its hitched, it lowers the car by at least an inch...any advice on how to prevent this..
Thanks
Durry

Trying to work out your tow ball weight by taking this from that and dividing it by something is as good as guessing.
The only way to find out properly is to load up as if your going on holidays and go to a weigh bridge, firstly weigh the whole thing and make sure you are not over, then roll the camper off so only the jockey wheel is on the weighbridge and see what you get.
You can also get two set of kitchen scales, put a board across both and lower the jockey wheel to get a measurement.
As for the rear of the car, my advise is to get some poly air bags put in your rear springs. This will make you a very happy camper.

Bathroom scales (as long as they will go to the weight you want) place a jack stand on them and under the two hitch and lower down with your jockey wheel., simple as.

thanks for the advice - i have arranged to take it to a weighbridge in the next few days...
As for the height - will see how i go with the Torsion bars once they are installed...
While i am on here.......any one had to dealings with Transmission coolers??? Are these something that you really only need when towing HUGE vans on long trips...I am thinking $400 for the cooler is better than $3000 for the new transmission....

Hi Darbro, from my limited knowlege, transmission coolers are a must if you are going to be towing. You are correct when you say 400 for the cooler is much cheaper than 3000 for the transmission.doc.
