Could anyone tell me how to test the pyrometer and guage.cheers

the guage will have power and earth to it as well as an input from the termistor end you will have to connect an earth to the probe but this will have to have a resistance and if the guage moves the problem may be in the sender /thermistor. i use vdo guage checker for this .

Hi Fish (or would you prefer"Mr Green"?),

Just spotted your post. I suppose you are talking about an analog dial-type gauge and a thermocouple for measuring exhaust gas temperature?

I check my thermocouples as follows: resistance between the two wires should be typically between 11 and 15 Ohms. Each wire should be insulated from the metal sheath of the probe (and from the stainless-steel braid of the leads, if it's that type of cable).

If either of the thermocouple wires is 'grounded', the gauge may not work correctly. This (or one of the thermocouple wires breaking internally and going 'open circuit') is the most common cause of failure in thermocouples.

If this doesn't help, please reply with more details of your symptoms and we'll see what else we can come up with.
