Are all torsion bars the same thickness in the shaft?
The reason I ask is I just upgraded
mine (TD100 cruiser) to HD but the ones that were removed (Std) look identicle to the ones removed!!!colour and all.
They certainly feel different but I did new shocks at the same time so maybe it's them.
Obviously the splines have to be the same diameter but I thought the shaft would have been thicker..more heavy duty.
Is it just that the spring in them is tensioned differently???
cheers

Hi Andrew
I've upgraded the torsion bars on the Terracan with an Ironman kit...and they are thinker than the originals.
Winding the bars up is easy but does not necessarily change the spring rate/tension significantly, but it does effect a lift...up to 50mm in this case.
Changing the shock absorbers also makes a huge difference to the ride and handling.

My originals in my 100 series were tiny in comparison to the ones i fitted (desert fox) some years ago, maybe the materials used are harder hence the thinner bars?? but what a difference between the 2 in ride and handling. cheers Paul

I've seen ads specifying 34mm bars instead of 32mm so I guess there's different sizes.
There has been some discussion over at lcool about torsion bars - consensus is that there are really only 2 bars made for the 100 series ... all the different types/brands of bars are just rebadging of the same bars. I can't confirm that - best to
logon to lcool and have a check.

The originals in a 100 are 25mm and replacement HD are usually 32mm.
I was going to put Ironman in but havent got around to it.
They are 32mm.
They dont have a spring??? in them they work by twisting and the heavier they are the harder to twist.
I have put progressive rear coils in and find it doesnt roll as much on corners and is still a nice ride in the front.
