off camping after chrissy in an old gold town. i was talking to an old cove i know and he got 2 small nuggets last week with a cheapie detector

can someome suugest a detector that works for a few hundred $

cant afford 5 grand

Nothing is cheap in the detecting field.

Maybe you can get a second hand Minelab Xterra for around $800. ven detectors 4 and 5 years of age still sell for around $3000. Have a look in Trading Post or Ebay for a bargain

some companies may rent them ? it would be cheaper than buying one for a single trip.

If you strike it rich then buy one !!!

MMMM for a good one you are looking $3,000 to $6,000 $175 would be low end. Having said that I once saw a guy work an area with a top end detector when a family turned up with an el cheapo dick smith detector.

The family found an old tin box the gold detector did not register, it contained all sorts of old coins and stuff probably a few thousand dollars worth. Luck of the draw I guess !
