Bazza try lots of Sorento owners who will be able to answer your questions.

Try the Sorento forum:
http://forum.australia4wd.com/index.php?showforum=111

In this months Caravan World there is a review of the Sorento crdi. Conclusion is that its a great vehicle for towing to two tonnes. I have one and tow a 1.2 ton Jayco Eagle Outback. You forget you're towing ie effortless. A fantastic vehicle, and 12l/100k fuel consumption when towing at 100k. Also a proper 4WD and cheap.

As per the other Korean 4x4 that got good reviews for towing (Terracan )...the Sorento is the same...good power and torque...2800kg towing capacity....and cheap ( in price, not build )
Not as big as something like a Prado, but for some people it would suit them better ..

The thread on the Sorento forum about not using weight distribution hitch (wdh) is curious. I use a wdh with my Sorento and the van tows perfectly with no sign of sway up to 120 kph.
When I first hitched up using the supplied Kia towbar tongue it was apparent that the tongue was too high in relation to the camper's A frame so that the camper was sloping backwards. In this case the wdh would not have worked and I had to buy a replacement (non Kia) tongue.
I would not get too worried about a low trade-in for a new Sorento - these are incredibly good value and solid vehicles with a proper towing chassis and excellent finish. A recent (magazine) review put the Sorento ahead of the Jeep Cherokee, Nissan Xtrail etc etc ie all other mid size real 4WD's on the market!
