HI all, haven't seen a post on this. Went to Repco where they have a 40L Engel for $1199 plus at least $155 for a transit bag, with a claimed 12V 2.5A current draw. The Memphis is 55L and on the side of the box it's got 12V and 5A - but its price is $649 including the travel bag. So the power consumption is double but the cost is just over half. So, will it last and who's got one? Cheers, Glenn

Hi Glenn,
Look around for the price for the Engel, you will get a far better price than that. I can not comment on the Memphis, but can only say that you don't have a fridge on the Australian market for over 40 years if it is not good, the Engel may be a dearer, but you only get what you pay for.
Cheers
Stephen

Hi Stephen
I agree with you. We just went up to
Wedge Island north of
Perth this weekend and my mates Waeco was struggling to get below 6 degrees. We ended up using my old Engel for the bait freezer, while the Waeco was just for the drinks. He regrets not buying an Engel now
Cheers, Will.

the rated current draw is the maximum amps it will draw when running...not what is draws at any ambient condition....eg it may pull 5 amps when in the back of the 4wd on a 45 degree day.....where as on a 25degree day it may only pull 3amps
only a couple manufacturers of 12vdc compressors (other than Matshuita ((name))) and as far as I can determine both are good
as for the rest of the unit of any make its any ones opinion as to which is better

Anaconda have the 38litre "plastic" Engel on special at the moment for $799 ($100 off). Same 2.5 amp max draw.

ABR's Sidewinder fridge sits half way in price between the Engel 40 and the Memphis 55 litre.
Holds 75 beer cans too!
I've tested it.
cheers!

Those fridges are really good.
Well designed, great compressor, with minimal start up draw, and efficient.
Great insulation.
That would be the pick of the engel or the repco one already mentiond
Trains
ps, no im not connected with the company.
