I am about to replace the shockers on my 04 TD100 .At this stage I am looking at Old Man Emu from ARB.

Does anyone have any experience with another brand.I tow a van and mostly on the bitumen however do some corregated roads with the vehicle only. Will possibly be doing the Canning Stock Route next year.

I have had the Old Man Emu,s on a couple of Patrols in the past and they seemed to perform well.

Cheers

My only experience of one case was a 100series TD that spat all the oil out of both brand new front OME shocks on the Madigan line. Following day he broke an A-arm. The 100series IFS front shocks are very short, and the front end is pretty heavy - needs a good shock.

On my second set of Bilsteins. Got 90,000KM out of the first set with a lot of 4WD'ing and outback touring.

My 100 series had Emus all round when I bought it with 40,000km on the clock - I retired the front ones to the spares bin and put Bilstein mono gas on the front - mono's are reputed to run cooler than twin tubes on the horrid corrugations and have little chance of stone damage while up front. For the rear, I still have the Emus on, but they will be retired soon for TJM XGS - being twin tubes, they can withstand stones better and the higher heat levels will have to be gambled with. One can also fit stone guards to the rear shocks. I used the same formula on my 99 SE TD Jackaroo - it went very well on the Gibb RR and the Tanami track in 06 - with the same suspension layout on the 100 series, thought I'd use the same shock formula.

I have Koni adjustables in mine, they have done 68k now and still perfoming as new, recently on a trip i copped a major rock strike on the RH shock, nice deep ding in the bottom, took it to toperformance where i bought them to test it, passed the test even with a huge woof in it.also they are rebuildable when they do wear out, about $70 a kit. my mate with his 60 series has the konis also and his are 11 years old now, done over 100k and are like new still in their performance, not in looks. cheers Paul

I have a 100 ser live axel , recently replaced all round , from
RAW fx shocks which were very firm and I thought an excellent
shock to OME nitros , which I find a little dissapointing-
very soft, allows more body roll , slower reacting over bumps at speed
but am led to believe , articulate very well ??
So ,I have them now and will use them untill finished or untill I just
can`t stand the roll any longer.
Hope this gives some insight.
John

I just fitted Bilsteins all round. had them 2 weeks. So far so good.!!! I replaced the standard shocks. There is a noticable difference. Can't comment on other shocks in the 100 series because I haven't had any.

I use to have OME's in a Nissan Patrol GU. Did the GRR on them and they didn't let me down.

It's a nightmare making suspension decisions.

Good luck.

Billies have my vote.

Which ever shock you fit, I'd strongly recommend fitting (if you haven't already) HD torsion bars, especially if you have a b/bar +.
The stiffer spring rate will make life easier for the shocks & minimise hitting the bumpstops (which can lead to other problems).

Corio.

On my LC100 IFS.
OME LTR's on the front and LT's on the back.
So far no probs.
Travelled.
Simpson geo cntr.
Hat river.
Simpson, gunbarrel, CSR. 5 weeks of traveling.
and a number of smaller trips.
On the CSR trip I did carry a full set of spares.
When others were failing, the OME's show no signs of doing so.

Thanks for all the replys.Looks like Bilsteins are the way to go.

Have googled and found only one WA agent,Autoride Suspensions.I,m sure there are other agents to allow comparison on pricing.Any ideas?

Cheers

Darren Mc crae at Auto-Craft in geelong has Bilsteins that he gets especially valved for the IFS Landcruiser. Seems he has done quite a lot of research and development on the 100 series IFS suspension.
You can email him at,
darren@auto-craft.com.au.
I have dealt with him for suspension upgrade for my 2006 GXL.He will send stuff to Perth

Hi Corio

Sorry for the late reply, I havn't been on here for a few weeks.

I've got an 06 Cruiser IFS. Got Bilstiens all round and OME Torsion bars on it!!! Went to the Cape in July and totally hammered the car. The suspension didnt budge a millimetre. Got nothing but praise for those shockies!!!!

Good luck.

The Dr.
