I am about to make the BIG G Purchase.

I am torn between the Honda and the Yamaha, is there anyone out there with the Yamaha 2400, it seams to be better value, l understand its a little heavier, but I am used to carrying around a little bit of extra weight if you know what I mean.

I really appreciate the help and knowledge.

Dont know about the 2400 ,but do know that my Yamaha 1kva runs 3hrs longer on the same amount of fuel as the b/inlaws Honda 1kva running the same fridges /lights ect.

Shane the Yamaha is a beauty.

If the extra weight/size is not an issue get that one.

cheers

I'm still trying to find someone who's had or heard of a Hyundai Hy3000SI.
For less bucks than the EU20, similar noise rating 2700w continuous output 28.5kg (7.5 heavier) and the Koreans reputation as far as auto quality and reliability may not yet match Japans, they're not far behind !
Any thoughts ??

Ive just looked into buying either a Yammie or Honda genny, in either size.In the end I went for a 1KVA Yamaha.Seeing as we are in a camper trailer, it will do all we need it to.If you want a bigger genny, I would go the 2.4 Yamaha, its rated 2KVA cont. where as the 2.0i Honda is only rated 1.6KVA cont.
There is nothing wrong with Honda generators but doing lots of research, the Yamaha wins for me.There are some good prices around ATM, lowest I got for a 2.4 Yamaha was $1725, it tempted me..........

Gooday,
Have Yamaha 2400I, have had it almost 2 years, great bit of gear.
Done 75 hours. Put an hour meter on it, was a good investment.
Cheers.

Both make great units but I would take the extra KVA, always comes in handy, especially when you want to run several things at the same time. The noise levels are less on a generator not having to work as hard as a one that does etc.

The weight is not really an issue in my opinion, you only have to lift it occassionally.

I've had a Honda eu2oi and now have a Yamaha 2400i.
In my opinion they are like chalk and cheese.
Ok the Honda is well engineered and very popular, slightly lighter and easier to handle but expensive to buy and repair (if ever necessary!)
Mine always stank of fuel when carried in rear of cruiser, and when running any reasonable load was fairly noisy due to the high revs.
The Yamaha is slower reving for larger outputs (less wear), has a petrol cock to alow fuel to be run out of carby so no fuel smell, auto eco throttle, has a protection strip to stop starting cord marking the case just to mention a few of its attributes.
Yes it is a little heavier and larger, but it feels well made and strong, I got the Yammyy for $1490 ! which was another bonus!
As you have can see I love the Yamaha and IMO is a far better buy if you have the room to store it.

This is a question that is continually asked. I’ve had both products and each are excellent brands (probably give you 25 years of service if looked after).

I’m not a proponent of the view that states ‘buy cheap & replace’.

A $2,000 purchase of a quality generator will cost you $80 a year during its life and provide reliable service. Couple of things that need to be considered prior to purchase:

· Weight and bulk can be a real issue for some people. My Honda 2KVA is starting to feel a little heavy in old age, but not too much of a problem.

· If you’re intending to travel cross country, then the generator’s capacity to run power tools becomes important. Particularly for repairs, or in case of a remote accident where panels need to be cut off to get you going again

Whether one or the other run’s longer on fuel is hardly worth talking about.

Some people are fixated on noise. From my experience this usually comes from poor location of the generation.

I’ve lost count of the times I’ve seen fellas set up a generator with the exhaust facing towards the camp site, or neighbours. Turn the generator away and all you’ll hear is a gentle hum.

We had a situation up in the High Country a few years back, when a fellow camper had the exhaust facing directly towards a small cliff on the opposite of the river. The rebound off the wall drove us mad until I asked him to turn it 90 degree, we were all happy after that.

Finally, my view is. Make a long term invest you can rely upon.

Regards

Kim

Thanks all for the great responses, I ended up with the Yamaha.

Being a 6ft7 27yr old guy the extra 10kgs didn't bother me and it seems the general opinion is chalk and cheese l like the idea of the extra power.

Tomorrow night will be the new toy haulers first outing as well as the wife and I's, we found a powered site for our test run so we wont even need the new beast :)

thanks again and I am sure ill have more questions after the weekend.

Hi, Just joined, does anybody have any experience with Genquip inverter generators, looks good on paper.
2kva, 21kg, $1150,4 stroke, I am thinking of getting one, a lot cheaper than the others, should I stay with the name brands?

Johnny C,

I just feel that with a non brand name generator, I could get stuck somewhere and I need it. There is people who have the whole "Use it and throw it away" idea, which I don't agree with.

I hate to purchase something to save $700 then to have wasted the $1150 as I have to purchase a good branded one. It just worries me as no one can repair a generator or sell a new one 400km's out of Alice springs.

I've heard of people with generators (Name Brands) that are 10yrs plus and still running fine. Frequent oil changes and cleaning is the key to long life so I've been told.

That's my 2 cents worth.
I wish my opinion had the inflation rate of Zimbabwe as my opinion would be worth billions now:)

I read on one of the caravan forums that someone had issues with a Genquip 2kv. From memory it made a "screaming" noise, when loaded to near maximum! Think the guy returned it for a refund, but it was a little while ago, so cannot remember all the details.

I'm a firm believer that you gets what you pays for! so cheaper is not always so!

Get your Yamaha now as they go up from the 1st January 2009 and $1725 is a very good price for a 2400 yami.
