I am looking to buy a 75 or 90 Lt Flexi
tank for my Patrol to sit on the floor behind the Drivers
seat for a trip to the Alice mid next year.
I would appreciate any comments from anyone who has used this type of
water container or if they have any other suggestions on
water storage for long trips.
Regards,
Iceman

I've owned and used the Float Pac brand ones for both
water and diesel for 20 odd years now.
They all work
well but do eventually leak due to being folded for extended periods and develop small cuts in the inner bag.
Both of
mine now need replacement, but we are talking about pretty hard use. Whitworths used to sell them but notice in the latest catalogue that they don't any more.
After searching around I found a mob in Qld that come highly recommended and will order a new one from them in the new year.
The website is at

Thanks Peter 2, I looked up the Float Pac and forward off an enquiry which they sent back a quotation 80 Lt for $149 which I thought was quite reasonable. ARB was $249.
I will also look at Whitworths as
well.
Thanks.

I personally prefer those light blue jerries, about $20 each. Take as few or many as each trip requires and very robust.
My concern with flexi tanks is one leak and you've lost all your
water.
Having said that, they do squeeze into little hidey holes and can be very space efficient. Perhaps two smaller ones to hedge your bets?
Whitworths, in Elizabeth St,
Melbourne have a good range.
Cheers,
Jim.

Having just read Peter's reponse, perhaps not Whitworth's LOL.

I forgot to add that I also bought a 50l Plastimo
water bladder (after I found my Floatpac bladder had a leak) for this years Geo centre of the
Simpson desert trip, it lasted two days before developing a leak. Fortunately noticed it pretty quickly (
water running down windscreen!) and didn't loose much. It didn't get punctured but obviously couldn't handle the rocking on the roofrack and let go on a seam. Mind you pretty extreme cross country conditions.

You make a good point with the plastic containers. I was looking to put the bladder behind the front seats on the floor which I think should be fairly stable. Although I haven't travelled past
Arkaroola so the roads are unknown to me at this stage. I will look at the 20 Lt containers to see how I can fit them in the same space.
