Hi,

I have a GQ diesel that I want to convert to LPG. I have a drawer system in the rear, I have removed the rear seats and built an extension on the drawer system which gives me a bed. The reason I'm telling you this is that I don't want to put the LPG tank inside the car. I spoke to a few LPG fitters who measured up installing a tank underneath but if I did this I would lose all ground clearance. Given this, I see only two alternatives:

1. Raise the vehicle so that ground clearance isn't compromised
2. Someone told me about slim line LPG tank but I can't find them anywhere.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to the way forward? If I was to go the lift option, do you know how high the lift would be?

What is the best way to fit LPG on a GQ with out losing my bed!!

900x16 tyres!

OR

Remove fuel tank and fit LPG tank in its place and then fit smaller 70litre auxilliary diesel tank

Cheers

Hi,
Rather than fitting one big tank, is it possible to fit 2 smaller tanks?
My friend has a 100 series with 2 40ltr tanks underneath and it does not sacrifice any ground clearance.
Not sure if it is possible with the GQ....

Jason, normally the gas tank goes on the left hand side, where the muffler used to be, run the exhaust down the middle. Have a look at the attached.

Discoveries run scuba tanks on the floor inside the rear compartment.this is all speculation but maybe 3-5 tanks side by side 4 inches diameter and 600mm long...false floor ontop and you still have most of your room. If you put a body lift of 2 inches in your patrol, the under body gas tank diameter can be increased by 2 inches, which may make a 10% increase in litres....which should be roughly 1/3 of your fuel capacity. The tank aboove is 35 litres i believe. If you put the body lift in and use the 35 litre tank, it will tuck up a further 2 inches out of harms way...

Thanks for the ideas. I'm going to have a look at the smaller tanks or modifying the exhaust - thanks for the Pics John it makes it so much easier to understand when you can see it :)

Jason,

I have had mine done by Diesel Gas Australia and they put in a 27lt tank as per the pictures. The tank with the shroud hangs about 50mm below the chassis which I wasn't to impressed with at the time but I have done some full on tracks and to date is has not hit mother earth.
