Was talking to a guy at Cobb and he said the cobblestone are the equivalent of 12 heat beads and to be careful if using a whole one for a roast.
I use my Cobb for roasting and also as a base for a Beidouri oven which I use for stews .
Anyone had any experience with using the cobblestone and , if so , your comments on heat generated would be appreciated.

Hi Peter,
We've only used one yet (for about a 2 kg roast lamb) but yes we found them very hot. Definitely a lot hotter than beads. I will be only using 1/2 to 3/4 next time. I think they should be easy enough to cut.
Cheers
Super

Thanks for that.
So looks like it would be too hot for the stew in the
bedourie.

Hi Peter,
We have used the Cobblestones a couple of times and think they are great - far better than Heat Beads. Each time it burnt for 2 1/2 hours and yes, they are hotter. In future I'd turn the meat sooner and/or use a rack (round cake cooler).
If you are organised and the roast is not too large you have enough time to
cook a damper, scones or dessert after the meat and veges are finished.
We found Heat Beads (that's a brand name and the best of the lot) go off - probably absorb moisture. Cobblestones also take less space and you can halve them.
Thanks for
the tip on the
Bedourie, I'll try it.

cook a damper etc as
well. cheers

As "handy" says, with heatbeads in the old style Cobb you have plenty of time for a roast and damper.
7 heat beads = 3 1/2 - 4 hours cooking time.
If you didn't loose so much heat out of the mesh in the new style ones you wouldn't need the cobblestones.

Thanks for the further input.
As a matter of interest using the
Bedourie in the Cobb I place it on top of a Trivett

What are "cobblestone" heat beads & where do you get them?
I don't have a Cobb but use a Webber BBQ alot. Lately I've been finding the heat beads have been burning a bit cool and causing me headaches with the slow cooking times, so from what you're saying these Cobblestones would be just what I need.
