Hi gang.. anybody own a Coleman Road Trip Barbeque?

I am curious to know if you can cook with the lid closed?

Also, has anybody used the wire pot adaptor things so that you can convert the barbeque to a stove for pots and pans etc?

Cheers

Mark T

P.S. Merry Christmas to all.

Not sure if we are talking the same thing, I bought a Coleman BBQ - a couple of burners under a BBQ plate. Folds up like a brief case and runs on disposable bottles or normal bottles via a hose.

Don't think it could be used while the lid is closed. I have and only would use it as BBQ. What I liked was how quickly it got hot and how much control there was on the flame/heat.

Kind regards

pretty sure I saw Roothy and the other bloke from the Caravan Mag using one on one of their recent DVD's. Think they had the lid down. Also think Roothy used one for a cook up when on one of the greet and meet trips recently.

Hi Mark.
I have had a Coleman Roadtrip Barby for about 4 years or more. It’s a reasonable unit, sits between a full size home one and a little portable one.Mine came set up for a std 4 or 9 kg LPG bottle with a std regulator. I believe that the Nth American version uses a disposable bottle attached directly to the back of the BBQ. Would not be to keen on that system as they can get through the gas with two burners going. And yes they are designed to be used with the lid up or down. The non stick plate and grill is easy to clean, handy when camping. Go careful with metal tools.

They fold up well and fit into a well made bag with wheels on one end. Don’t put it inside the vehicle whilst travelling as they can stink on a hot day (I put mine up on the roof rack). The fat catcher is quite good and as long as it’s stowed reasonably flat, doesn’t spill.

Down side. Can be a bit slow as the rather large burners operate with a fairly lazy flame (lid down helps). The circular wire pot stand is a bit useless as it’s too far away from the burner and is very slow.

Over all it’s not a bad unit and I use mine anywhere I’ve set up camp for a couple of days or more.

Regards, CliveG NZ.

Many thanks Clive.. I purchased one today and have just enjoyed a Wagyu steak from it.

It came with the adaptor for the large bottle (9kg?) and I have been using that tonight. I did put the lid down.. and spent a long time cleaning it!!

It will fit into one of the _Affordable_Storage_Drawers.aspx on my camper trailer when folded and so it seemed like a good choice to cover home and camping now that my old barbeque is stuffed.

Your comments re the wire things is timely... I ordered 2 yesterday!! When there are only 2 of us I use my jetboil anyhow.. so they probably won't see much action.

Figured I'd knock up a canvas/vinyl bag to store it in in the CT.

Thanks for your time in replying.

Merry Christmas

I know what you mean re cleaning the thing. Used to do that every time when it was new. As time passes I seem to get less fussy with the clean up. LOL.

I've have had one for about 3 or 4 years and I have good and bad comments. Good is I find the burners are hotter than a normal gas stove, good height once on the stand, the bag and wheels are great for moving and storing, put the lid down and gets very hot, I cook a camp oven on the pot grill attachment I find it great. Bad side is it takes for ever to clean and pack up it puts me off taking it for short trips, and the plates have those slots in them and I am forever loosing food down them into the tray under it is a real pain. I fill the bottom tray with water up to the line they say to and then give it a squirt with detergent as I find it helps with cleaning later.
