A retailer recently confided in me that one of the biggest brand-name fridge company is having some major changes soon...

it also seems that they wont be using the danfoss engines for some of thier model range either.

is anyone else aware of this, i googled but mite have missed it....
also, can anyone tell me where to check the motor type?

merry chritmas to all

Hi Robertbruce

I know you meant Fridge!!!! we have a dometic fridge and we hate it (its brand new) and we have already replaced the cooler unit (it was only a couple of weeks old) apparently there was a bad batch...................... we have also just replaced the New dometic Air Con which died in Longreach 45 deg in the shade - dometic is a swear word in this caravan!!!!!!

We have had the van since Nov 4 and we hope that we have seen the last of our troubles - Well what do you expect for a brand new $60,000 van?????

PS Thanks for listening............................. & Merry Christmas to you.

Cheers
Caz

We bought in some Snowmaster from South Africa a few years ago and they had a 66W Chinese compressor and that part was exceptionally good.
Shane who owns Snowmaster told me that a certain world wide fridge maker from germany was sniffing at the compressors then.
He said they were sniffing at both ACC and the Chinese ones.
Shane was the person that bought into Aus the 40L and 80L s/s units that became Engel but they put the Sawafuga Swing motor in them and he was with Natioanl Luna.
Now the fridges that we bought in are supplied by a well known gas fitting item and equipment supplyer.
So it could be the Electrolux cum ACC or the Chinese but you would think that if they own ACC they would use it in preference.
Ive had a 40L Snowmaster working 24/7 as a freezer for over three years now.
Even if it does play up Ive plenty of spare compressors for it as we covered our bum and bought in a pallet of them.

whois is ACC? ..
i thought the major supplier was mobicool japan, not the aus distributer....

and it seems the ACC motor is being used many other imports to... sidewinder(fledgling ebay brander) to name one....

also, while i reach for a not-quite-cold-enough-stubby, i wish i was pulling it out of a national luna, they were built to deliver meds in africa, good enough for my stubbies in 32ambiant i reckon...

i thought shane bought in the mobicool thermolec's to fill market gap while its production sibling geared for its jazzy range??

I did read somewhere that Engel were moving away from the danfoss swing motor to some new magnetic induction motor with only one moving part or no moving parts or something - all done with smoke n mirrors and magnets apparently and nowdays every man and his dog has a danfoss engine in their car fridge.

For the life of me can't remember where i read or heard it - maybe the 4wd show?

Take it with a grain of salt, for what little it's worth.

Cheers

Hi Flywest,
Engel have never and will not use a danfoss compressor. Engel use the world famous Sawafuju Swing Motor. Why?? Reliable.

Cheers and have a Great Festive Season

Google "Engel" for info re swing motor.

I had a new Engel upright fridge with the "Swing Motor" fitted to the c/van about 10 months ago. It makes a fair bit of noise and at night I sometimes have to turn it off so I can get some sleep.
I contacted Engle and was told it would be an installation problem and to remove it from the van and test it while on the ground or a bench.
If it was still noisy to then contact their service people.
I asked if the removal and test was covered as part of Warranty ?
" No only the work required by service agent if it was still noisy"

I can remove and test it but it`s not a 5 minute job, looks like my only option though as I need to find out while still in warranty.

Cheers and Beers & have a Merry Christmas.

Scrubby.

Hi Scrubby,
Engels can be noisy if the way/place they are fitted act as an amplifier of the normal vibration associated with the swing motor. The upright inbuilt ones are often fixed to some thing that drums under vibration, which is why they suggest you take it out & try it on something solid.
IT could be more the van builders problem tnan Engel's ,perhaps you should approach them for comment, in case it is a big problem to overcome any drumming.
