Can anyone suggest a good economical protective coating for the underside of a camper trailer. I am after something that can be painted on with a brush and has a durable finish, like the ones that are used as ute liners?? Cheers & Merry Christmas, Will.

Why not just use the ute liner stuff, it's available in lots of colours these days.

I used Penetrol first when I was doing up my old Viscount pop-top on both the chassis rails and the (very dry) ply flooring.
I followed this up with metal primer and then a suitable top coat enamel. On the timber I used good old Ormonoid, a bitumen-based sealer. This could be top coated too, probably with the same Kilrust enamel. We won't get into a discussion on Kilrust top-coat, except to say that it is more important to consider what you put ***under*** the top-coat.

Cant go past Ormonoid. Most times you can get it at Mitre Ten in 500mm, 1 Litre or 4 Litre tins. Aply it with a brush and can be thinned if required. I used to use when I was a Panel Beater over Rust repairs in car floor panels.

I have not tried this yet but my mate just put me on to it last week. Its called hardnose and sets so hard will not chip. Its very expensive - about $125 per litre (covers 10 sq metres). I am going to try it on my tandem trailer when I get time as it always gets stone chips on the front and scratches etc on tray so this will be a good test for it.. My mate swears by it. It can be painted on by brush as
well.

I have no association with company and have not used yet.

Give rust bullet a go. I just put some on my 64 cruiser and it seems to set rock hard. Their website seems to give it a good wrap. Cheers
