Hi all,
I just read with interest the post about naming companies that do you wrong. After being on the road 2 yrs we have had our fair share of people not treating us right, especially since they won't see us again and yes I would love to name them. I won't do it on here, so don't worry David. But I will to everyone I meet on the road. Everyone makes mistakes but it is the way they treat you after the mistake that matters.
I would however like to name a couple of companies that I believe have been exceptional. Let me first explain. If I take car in for a service I expect it to be serviced, that's what I'm paying for. What I'm talking about is the companies that do what you pay them to do and more, be it incredible customer service or doing the extra things. One company that serviced my car in Esperance actually charged me extra to do the little things like black my tyres and wash my windscreen but forgot 2 major things I needed fixed. That's not service.
When were heading of All Terrain 4x4 in Moorabin Vic did the pre trip inspection. They were fantastic in every area. They did the job very well and did what we wanted as it was our trip but offered advise when appropriate. It wasn't about spending as much of my monet as they can. It was about making sure we were set up to do the trip safely in comfort with money still to spend. If in Melbourne and need a GREAT Mechanic, use these guys.
In Joondalup (Perth) we used Auto Masters. Did rear shocks and brakes plus service. Did a great job of all. Treated us like we would be back next week.
When in Alice Springs we had major electrical melt down on trailer and car electrics. We used Ray Tebeck auto electrics. Service like I have never seen before. This company went way beyond the call of duty to help us out. With out their help we would have been stuck. I cannot recommend this company highly enough.
Recently, after recommendation from this site, I used Lindisfarne Auto Service (Hobart), to solve an oil leak. They were very good and solved what others hadn't been able to. Again treated like we were coming back.
All of these companies treated my wife with respect as well which she really appreciated as it is usually her taking the car in.
Sorry this is a bit long. People are quick to shame companies. I just wanted to name the ones that treated us better than I paid them to. Being on the road is hard when you don't now who to use. If you choose to use any of these people please say "Hi" to them for us, they have been apart of making our trip possible.
Merry Christmas to you all and have a safe one.

Josh, it comes down to people.

Year ago I popped into ARB Midland in Perth. All I wanted was a set of Staun Tyre deflators.
We got treated like royalty, had cakes and biccies and a cuppa with the staff while discussing 4x4 trips had by all.

A couple of months ago visited an ARB outlet closer to home and was treated worse than having a fly land on your nose. I was there enquiring about front and rear air lockers [$3700 worth].

Well....Ive got the $3000, and next pay day will have the $700.
Guess where Im going for the lockers [my turn to shout the cakes].....lol.

Cheers.....Lionel.

Complimenting the good firms rather than bagging the bad ones is very effective on the internet, and in these difficult times, they need all the 'word of mouth advertising' that they can get.

Good service reports are always good to read. I will more readily go to XBLoggs business after a good report here, than think I'll avoid a place where someone had an issue (may have just been a bad day), still not knowing which business to choose.

Keep up the good service reports. If someone does a really good job with top customer service for me (vehicle related), you will read about it here.

The problem is that there is always two sides to a story. So if we are to bag someone then we should let them know to be able to give a reply. Better to post and read about good service stories as shown above. Cheers Tony

If some one has done the wrong thing by me I let them know that I am not happy with them. If I still don't get any service then I tell them this will cost them bad advertising. I had trouble with a company in Katherine. I rang the head office customer complaints and told them I understand people make mistakes, all I wanted was some customer service. They told me they would sort it out. Rang me back with number for another service centre who were fantastic. Would I use the company again, Yes and I have. Would I go to the one in Katherine again, no. Customer service goes along way these days. I was actually told by this company in Katherine that they don't have good customer service.
I guess the point I was trying to make is let people know of good service, it helps those guys out.

Merry Christmas

Josh,

I've no argument with your post so I'm not having a go. I'm just airing my opinions.

I think its important to name those that provide good or exceptional service because that's what I am looking for. I would rather choose a provider named on this forum than someone unknown to me. I have in fact done so on several occasions.

On the flip side I think it is potentially very unfair and damaging to be naming and shaming businesses on a forum because we don't know whether the naming is genuine or a malicious act from someone with an axe to grind. A desperate competitor for example.

If you look at this forum as an example, sure there are many familiar faces and based on their prior contributions you get some idea of their credibility but there are others who are not regular contributors so if the naming and shaming were to take place how do we know the genuine ones from the malicious ones ?

There are also two sides to every story/argument/disagreement and if we read only one side then we could be leaping to the wrong conclusion and being a very popular forum, we might well put someone out of business who doesn't deserve to be.

Have a great Christmas & New Year

Hi Toolman,
I agree with your comments totally. There are two sides too every story and when someone feels ripped off it will only be their side we hear. That's why I refuse to to name poor service on here But if I talk to someone in person I will tell them. They can make up their mind as to how much is true. The companies I named didn't just do their job but did it with exceptional service and competence. Everyone makes mistakes, I'd would even admit mine if I had any LOL... This was my way of saying "THANKS" to these companies for what they did.

It was interesting to note that many professional surveys on Customer service showed that a person receiving good service is likely to pass on that story of service to at least six (6) other people. If they get bad service, they pass it on to an average of 22 people. I know that a business is only as good as it's staff but you'd think that in these tougher economic times, managers/business owners would focus on customer service a lot more to ensure the the backbone of their business....the repeat customer!

Merry xmas all. Mick

I am a dead set Bridgestone man, but the Bridgestone Tyre Centres just dont do it for me, i prefer Tyrepower, they supply me with my Bridgestone tyres for $25 less per tyre. When i told the Bridgestone bloke he just said he coudlnt match it. So i always go to Tyrepower now, or Beaurepairs for there excellent warranties if its for some serious off roading.

Well Kroozer,

If you are ever in Broken Hill and have a tyre problem go and see the Bridgestone Tyre Cetre. The guys there know what they are talking about, are frindly and helpful and will give you as good a a deal as you can get on just about any brand of tyre. They are also excellent mechanics who offer top service to all customers, locals or visitors.

In keeping with the theme of this post I won't name the opposition company who abused me, swore at me and refused any assistance whatsoever, but if you MM me I will. Suffice to say though that the Tyrepower and Goodyear dealers in town are pretty close to Bridgestone in terms of service. There is only one I don't like.

I reckon we could have a spot on this site for 'good service'. Wouldn't it be great if we were travelling to a town and could do a search to see which businesses fellow EOs had had a good experience with?

Having a good service list is something positive.
However it still has issues.
I have a dispute with 4wd shop at moment that involves a large sum of money.
I was in hospital for long time and family forwarded funds for work they knew I wanted done.
The operator get's recommended on this site as well as many other forums.
He hides behind a $2 company so taking legal action becomes a bit of a hollow victory.
I recently approached the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Victoria Police and they have taken it up as a formal investigation.

Yes listing good companies does have it's pitfalls. Not everyone gets good service from the same company. I'm not talking about companies just doing their job well. I'm talking about companies who do it better than everyone else which is becoming far between. I just think it is better to name the good ones than to always bag the bad ones. Yes I have had bad service from companies :
Spent $1200 with leading brake company, drove out of driveway at 5:30 friday night went to stop and peddle went to floor. Got told to come back Monday cause mechanics gone home.
Ordered old man emu shocks 3 weeks in advance to have fitted, when I picked car up noticed shocks were not done, told they couldn't get them.
Had service done, got home and found tools left sitting in engine bay, when I rang to complain they asked can I drop them back in.
I would love to name these guys but naming the goods guys I think is better.
