Hi,

I've got clutch shudder in a GU patrol ute. Been there since I got it second hand. Have been told it's pretty common since asbestos was removed from the linings.

If I slip the clutch and burn it for a few seconds it's ok for a short while. I don't think it's oil but of course can't be sure.

Any ideas?

Maybe someone put in a LandCruiser clutch by accident... ;-)

I have one of those Exedy Sportuff clutches in my landcruiser and it has never shuddered.
The old clutch did but it I think it was a cheapy the PO fitted.

My clutch has never shuddered in my patrol , but it had in previous cars like ford - always ends up either being warped plate or oil....

I had clutch shudder after installing a brand new clutch plate. Manufacturer test drove the vehicle and then paid for the plate to be changed - no more problems. The brand new plate (the one that was replaced) had no obvious defects other then a little free wobble when on the splines.

The best way to deal with a shudder is not cheap ,remove the gear box replace the clutch plate ,pressure plate, and thrust bearing also remove the flywheel and have it machined.
While the flywheel is off replace the rear main oil seal and unless the front gear box seal is bone dry replace that as well.
Above all dont use a cheap clutch kit and use dry graphite on the splines on the front gear box shaft when putting it all together

Good luck , Vic
