I received an email from the caravan park owner at Nambucca Heads where we are heading for holidays advising that there will be very lengthy delays for all traffic over the 26, 27, 28 December due to planned roadworks and to allow for it in the journey between Kempsey and Karuah. Not sure if this only applies to North bound traffic or both ways.

May be worthwhile to allow for this for anyone heading that way. Merry Christmas to all and hope for safe travels to all.

cheers until 2009...

I have on very good authority that the road works just south of Port Macquarie will not be working until the 5th of January. I would also say with confidence that the roadworks at Bulladelah will also be on Holidays until then.
The traffic will still be unusually heavy due to the freeway changing from 2 lanes to one due to the road works.

The extension of the expressway construction from Tea gardens to Bulahdelah will create no more havoc than previous years.

It is two lanes one north and one south and restricted to 80KPH and double lined the total length.

It should flow better than the old road as no passing lanes means no one locked into these lanes.

It will still be a major bottleneck at the northern end at Bulahdelah.

Have a safe holiday.

My daughter drove up that way on Xmas eve. It was very frustrating as she had to do 80 (her license is her job) but many others tried to go faster. There was nowhere for her to pull over to let the fools go past.

The biggest bottleneck is now Kew, closely followed by Bulahdelah.....heading north..
But heading south, it seems Bulahdelah is worse....

Early morn or late arvo is the go....or middle of the night ( depends where you are going )
