Hi all,
Hope you all had a fantastic Christmas. We have yet another problem with our van the awning leaks - it is where the stitching is, it doesn't pour in just dribbles in, however we have the annex up at the moment and it was running down the annex walls yesterday afternoon during the downpour we got here at
Stanthorpe. I really don't want to call the warranty people yet again and wondered if there was a simple thing that we could do to stop this?
Thanks in advance for any advice
Cheers

You could try one of those tent waterproofing compounds, just paint it along the stitch lines. I'd test it first on a piece of the vinyl just to make sure it doesn't soften it though.

Good Idea, will try that, should work will test just in case.

Matt if the awning has not been used yet may be it has to be weathered a few times for the stitching to become waterproof.
I have my new Adventure camper tent set up in the back yard at present waiting for the rain to come & weather the stiching, they say it may take one lot of rain or up to 12 lots so it is up for couple weeks i think.
Come to think of it my awning on the motorhome when we had it,leaked right over the door would you beleive, any way it had only been up a few times in the rain. Don't know if it
water tight now as i sold it the m'home. Hope that is all it is as you seem to be having a bad run, hope it stops now with the awning for you.
Cheers Bob.

I agree that if the awning is new it will not be waterproof until its has been weathered a couple of times.
Another option to waterproofing compounds if its still got small leaks is also to rub some wax on the seams. Any type of wax will work including a simple household candle. Happy
camping!

Which part of the walls are leaking. If it running inside your awning roller it will be because you have it in the wrong position especially if it is a Dometic awning.
Mine was leaking last week so I went to the guys who installed my annexe and they said thats easily fixed you have it in the wrong position.
Looking at the towbar end of the roller the sailtrack for the annexe should be at 9 oclock not as
mine was at 6 oclock.
If its at 6 it lets the stitching on the awning leak down the inside of the roller and will run down the inside of the annexe.
Just roll the awning up (that is as if you were going to roll it up) a bit and then get the track in the right position and it will be ok.You have to remove the antiflap tracks and any rafters to do it though.
Mine whilst it is new doesnt leak thru the stiching anywhere else.

AHA!!!
Yes Graham it is a dometic and our annex is an aussie will try at 9 oclock and see how we go. We weren't shown how to set up the awning or annex and being novices its been a physical challenge!!
The awning has only seen rain a few times so it may also need to be weathered in so to speak as others have suggested. Failing this we will see how the candle or sealant go.
Thanks
