Gidday all,
Merry Xmas and Happy new year.
I am planning my leave for '09 and would like to know what the
Kimberley's are like in the July/August period, avoiding school holidays.
Cheers
Greg

Greg - Very highly recommended. Check out our blog entries regarding our 2008 trip there.

Greg, If you are talking about conditions then that time of year is perfect as you would know from living in the NT. The downside is that it is busy with lots of people (tourists) in the main towns so sites have to be booked
well in advance.
Regards
Mark

Hi Greg,
My wife and I did 2 months in late July/August/September 2007 for our honeymoon in the
Kimberley and it was absolutely amazing. We left
Perth on 16 July and got to
Broome on 19 July and returned home the second week of September.
I'm not sure if we were there during school holidays, but if we were, it wasn't noticeable.
Broome was busy, being the central hub, but everywhere else (
Cape Leveque,
Gibb River Road,
Kununurra, Fitzroy, Hell's Crack (whoops,
Halls Creek) and everywhere in between weren't busy at all.
We're actually heading that way in July 2009 for our two year anniversary and spending 7 days at
Cape Leveque and the rest around
Broome.
Cheers,
Jason.

Greg - While I'm sure the sights in the
Kimberley is amongst the best Australia has to offer at any time of the year that it is accessible, I'm so glad we went in June. It was not crowded and the roads were good. People who went in July found bad roads, crowded
camp sites and lots of people driving too fast for the conditions. If you can organise to spend a few weeks there before the July rush, it will be better. Also in most seasons, the
water in the streams and falls diminishes as the winter dry progresses.

We were up ther this year during July/August.
Broome was the only really crowded place.
Best to book for the most popular
places though.

We are normally there mid to late May into June which is sometimes a bit early, as roads are just opening and some rivers can be 1 metre deep at crossings. This year we will be there for two trips in August and September. Depending on the season, this can be a bit dry, so I think you have the perfect timing.
