Has anyone been able to "Keep ice even in 50 degrees Celsius"? as per the claim on Wacoe advertising packaging??

If so, could they please mention how they did it .. the CF18 ive got running off a newish 100amp agm wont even pull a custard skin... it's only 31degree heat here

I've had both an Engel (MT45) and a Waeco CF 50 run as freezers at various times. The Engel ran continuously as a freezer for 10 months in 06 with a 2 zone on top of it. The Waeco has done up to 10 weeks at a time. No drama's. I think you've really got to get them cold prior to leaving. I had the Engel at a constant -22 C and on those really hot days of 50C plus in the back of the car, the temp would be at -13 to -15 C by the end of the day. There is a big fluctuation regardless of the insulating bag. I have a CF 18 and although I haven't used it in freeze mode, I haven't seen an insulation bag for them. Are you keeping it covered? How many times are you opening it during ther day? Is it sitting in direct sunlight in the rear of the vehicle? Is it full of frozen food or only partially full? The problem I have with the 18 is that being 12/24 volt only, you can't give it a rev up on mains power before heading out?

Cheers Mick

Kieth, you really should do your homework top make sure you dont reccommend the wrong product...

Mick needs the EPS-817A

http://www.waeco.com.au/products3.asp?id=91&catId=57&subCatId=60&subCatId2=71

A point of interest is the UK site says niether the 12v rectifiers are suitable and to go for the 24v EPS-100W or MPS-50

at least these have the 240/12v auto switch over

12v rectifiers are suitable for the cf18 or cf50 and not for a stackable at all...

but the UK has differant electricty to rectify somehow...and it cooler there...mehhhhh

R B,if you read Mick's post carefully, he states he doesn't have a rectifier for his cf18, waeco recommend the eps 816a for the cf18 .

Kieth, your beer is obviously very cold... if you bothered to read anything at all he states he has a CF50 and I am the one with the CF18...lol

Wacoe do not reccommend the 816A for compressor fridges. The one your refferring to is for theromatic friges, notice the differant amperage

and note the link from the Australian wacoe site this is what it says

http://www.waeco.com.au/products3.asp?id=91&catId=57&subCatId=60&subCatId2=71

EPS-817
Adapter
- Required for the connection of kompressor driven Fridge/Freezers for all turbo units running BD35F units.
- Suitable also for all other 12 Volt thermoelectric coolboxes or as a universal power unit via the integrated cigarette lighter socket.
- Ideal for use at home, in the hotel, at the campsite, in the weekend home, etc.

Hang on Kieth and Mick, my bag and i am sorry...

problem is im blinded by the manner in which i was treated by wacoe and thier distruibuter over a recent fridge purchase...

ive complained, they changed thier website and apologised for a marketing error but it goes deeper than the three staff who treated me rough over it in thE first place.

its a long story, but lets just say I would not have the issue if Wacoe had been honorable and diligent with its marketing towards me...

Hi. I have a CF50 that is 3 yeras old.If running on 240v I can only run 3 led's before it freezes in up to 32deg temperatures with high humidity. On 12v I can run 4 led's. It has the Waeco cover on it and I allow plenty of room for ventilation. Regards,Bob.

I have a Waeco 60 in my caravan annexe and it sits on -12 all day even when the annexe is closed up when we are away.

Its running on 240v and it took 36 hours to get down to that temp originally but has remained at that since the 22nd November.
Food in it has remained frozen perfectly.

Ambient has been between 18-33deg in that time.

Temp in annex would have been quite a bit more some days.

Is the lid shut properly. Its easy to push it down but not clip it shut.

it is well ventilated, im parked in the shade by a big river....but i get tired of working my generator all day/night and playing musical baterry charging... it working pretty ordinary, takes all day to freeze something....

yep, noticed the lid...

... with those with experience with the CF18, is there a marked differance in the fan speeds between high and low...

also, my fan run fastest when it is supposed to cut off from lack of current?

Sounds very much like you have dodgy or inadequate wiring to the fridge to me.

Sorry Robertbruce, I didn't read your question properly. If it is the original cable then it should be ok.

One way to check if you have a multimeter is to get 2 pins, insert then into each conducter about 3 inches apart ( so they can't touch) then measure the voltage when the fridge is running, it should be above 12v preferably. It still could be a dodgy connection.

G/day R B, I have a cf18, we use as a dedicated freezer when we travel for long periods,I set it on the lowest freeze setting before we go and pack it full, allowing air space between packets,it has been fantastic for us. I just plug it into the dual batt' system in the back and forget it,magic, only open it once or twice a day.I got it from Frig andSolar and it came with a mobitronics 240v/12v transformer which lets me run it on 240 when needed, when we're camped it runs on 12v solar, it's 2yrs old and no probs,it ran cont; for 11 weeks as a freezer on our last trip.

We have a sheet of techni-ice under the lid of our CF 60 when in freezer mode, it seems to provide extra insulation & allows us to turn it off at night.

Not trying to tell you how to 'suck eggs' but, have a look at your battery cut-out switch setting. If running from a dedicated battery, you can set the slide switch to "Low". At this setting the electronics will let you run the battery quite low before cutting out.
I have run the CF50 as a dedicated freezer for quite some time without problems.
Keep an eye out to see if you are getting error warnings via the little red 'fault' light. The flashing will tell if something is amiss. The codes are;
1 flash with about 2 seconds between flashes - low battery cut out activated.
2 flashes with about 2 seconds between batches - Fan current overload (has exceeded 1A)
3 flashes with about 2 seconds between batches - Motor start failure (rotor blocked or refrigerant differential pressure >5bar)
4 flashes with about 2 seconds between batches Minimum motor speed of 1850 rpm not achieved (the refrigerator system is too heavily loaded)
5 flashes with about 2 seconds between batches - Thermal cutout of electronic controller (Ambient temp too high or refrigerator system is too heavily loaded)
I hope this may be of some assistance.

If you read the waeco literature, it states clearly....
to a maximum (minimum?)
-(minus)18 below ambient of +32`C.
meaning.. 50`C - 32`C =-18`C less any other things,
ie: cross airflow on compressor, insulating bag , sun on gear? ,
So at 31`C it should be -19`C in freezer ,may take overnite to fully ice up , but it also is sucking for the CF18 3.1Amps continuosly from the battery,I think that at approx 70% of 100amp batt =30amps usage before your error program kicks in
that being at less than 10hrs after you turn off the motor(charging)
3.1x10=31amps , battery may be flat..
just my 50c worth
John

Run the WAECO with the 24v power supply rather than 12v. Been told by a ex WAECO sales rep that they perform much better using this type of transformer !
