Hi all,
It's been a while since we've compared travel maps. I got a wall map for Christmas so I've updated my lines.
Image Could Not Be Found
This has taken me years to do but there is still substantial areas of the country I haven't even touched. I still have to do the entire top end, Tassie and huge areas of Queensland and NSW.
Willem put his map on here a few years ago and his is definetely the one to beat.
So let's see your map??
Cheers
Alan

Jeez Al, you've even been to Queensland. Do you reckon you could add up what it's cost in Fuel over the years lol! I can see a few gaps in WA north of Kurawarritji that look in need of exploring. All the best for the festive season. Mick.

Hi Alan
This is a map of all the main Trips we have done since 2000 thats when I got my first GPS the little Garmin eTrex. We have done may more, since having the troppy there would be around 20 to 30 day to week trips we do, anyone can check them out on
PlotSwap it's a pity you can't type your name in and find the file you have up loaded.

I got myself a large map of Australia to do the same but it's stilled rolled up in BK maybe I will start it tomorrow LOL.

We did it this year and found it
well worth while.
The owner of Bachsteen
Camp was looking for a buyer and the Mornington Conservation people had shown interest but planned only to fly people to
Walcott Inlet. It was mentioned Mt Elizabeth station would not maintain the track and this would be the last year it would be open to the public.
I was at
Honeymoon Bay 27/28 July camped on
the beach with 5 other vehicles. Was that you in the OKA with the goanna painted on the side parked close by? Also saw the same OKA at Siding Springs on the 26 Sep but coudn't locate the owners to have a chat.

Yes Richard, that was us at Honeymoon. We were there for a couple of months, exploring the coast by boat.
That was us at Siding Springs too. Small world!
Rick and Ann Jane (Bush Track Safaries) own Bachsten
Camp. Ann is Peter Lacey's brother (owner of Mt Elizabeth). Great people.
They were intending selling Bush Track, and to continue to operate the
camp themselves. It will certainly get harder to get in there if Rick stops doing the work on the track each year.
Cheers,
Peter

Yes, drove through Theda Station(with permission from the owner) to the
Morgan River and then later the Carson River in 1987. From there we followed the escarpment to Carson River Station and then later on we camped at the
Drysdale River en route to
King George Falls.
From our Carson
River camp we also explored south along a track marked on the 250,000 paper maps but lost it after about 10km and couldn't even find it on foot
Read all about it
here

Willem, we went into the
King George Falls and
the loop to Striker in '06 and south along the escarpment to the Theda boundary. Getting hard now.
Kalumburu have leased Carson Station out and am unsure of entry possibilities.
Last year we drove from
Home Valley to Oombulgurri. Now that is a track! The 85k took 3 days and getting harder each year. There are some pics in our link below (Carson Track).
Magic country!
Cheers,
Peter

Looks like a good trek to Oombulgurri. Good pics and video too!!
I met a bloke many years ago who did that run and then further up over the escarpment to
Kalumburu. Took them days to winch up the escarpment, so he said. This was around the late 70's.
How difficult was it getting access to Oombulgurri?
Still a lot of country to see out there. Next year I am going to look for some historic landmarks in the
Great Sandy Desert which will take in some 700km of desert. There has been exploration in those areas over the years but from my research I see that most seismic tracks are pretty much overgrown.
If you wish you may contact me via email willem@kempen.id.au
Alan....yes. Hope I have enough time and energy left to do these trips...:-)

This is our lot.
The red stuff was mostly between 1966 and 1972 in Minis before there was any bitumen between
Port Augusta and
Alice Springs.
Green was mostly in an F350 4x4 with slide-on between 1993 and 2000.
A lifetime won't be enough.

It would be nice if a feature like that was available on this website where you could select the track/trip and it would display where i have been. Would a great member's benefit ;-)
Not an ego thing, just a useful refernece for others to work out who has been to an area that they may be heading. Food for thought....

Maybe he works for the Railways, some people do.
Maybe he works for Telstra. They have stuff there.
Maybe he did it before it was closed.
Maybe there was some other opporunity.
You hould not assume that he did so illegally, just because you can't go there.

A few big tantalizing gaps remain:
Pilbara and much of WA. The Cape holds little attraction. SE Oz would look like a cobweb if I drew in the tracks there. Also sailed around the coast anti-clockwise - but that doesn't really count. The dots represent
places visited by air or sea but not road.
