Hi all,
i am setting up the newly purchased 8.9inch netbook (160gb HDD 1gb ram ACER laptop, on XP) up for in car navigation.
at the moment i have Ozi explore on it and natmap topo 250k of Australia on it. very soon i will be purchasing USB GPS and updating mapping to the latest Hema 4wd Australia.
so i am pretty set with that (although still trying to be an expert on Ozi Explore).
how to mount it in the 4wd?? I have a GU patrol wagon.
i am looking for something a little bit more user friendly (out of the way, but in easy reach).
i was thinking on the passenger side just above the glove box. there is a plate there, which i think the ute version uses.
I want to place it on a slide in that spot. with the cover lockable.
has anyone out there done this???

Post the question on the Patrol
forum quite a few have done various tables etc on there.
I have a 10 in and am going to hang it in a mesh bag on the cargo barrier as I already have an 8in screen on a ram mount in front of the dash. Will just run the screen on that via a USB cable.
Be careful if the Patrol has airbags as its not only illegal to block them but could also be fatal if u get a computer in the face rather than a soft airbag

I have a custom laptop mount made by Brown Davis in Bayswater (outer east of
Melbourne) fitted in my GU patrol. Great unit and incredibly solid when travelling out in the rough stuff (and I use a very heavy Panasonic toughbook computer). There are several shot's of it on my profile page. Have a look.
Cheers
Mick

Thanks for the advice people,
I am going to take the truck and computer to a car stereo place and see if they can do anything with the dash and a slide out whojar. the bride has no trust and isn't going to let me touch the bit of the dash where she has to look at all the time.. ha, what does she know...actually im a bit relieved
