There probably is a simple answer to this but right now it is eluding me.

Took SWMBO to the Big Smoke today for some retail therapy. Geez!!!...... what a bunfight at Elizabeth Shopping Centre ....and 500km there and back!! Pretty buggered, I am

Anyway, amongst other things, I came away with an Acer Netbook little fella computer and now I want to load Natmap Raster 2008 into it.

What is the easiest way to do this as the Acer doesn't have a CD/DVD drive?????

Cheers

Take all the music off your memory stick and put it on there or use an external DVD player

Hope you get the network going and you won't need to go with memory sticks

you would be needing a fair size memory stick Nat map is about 8 gigs

portable hard drive might be the go if you havnt got one already. I seem to recall you want it mostly for photos for which a portabl hard drive is ideal. I keep no pics on my computer.

I think 200gig is less than $100 now and office works is as good a place as any - there is one about 2 min walk from Elizebeth shopping centre

Yerr thanks....trouble is Office Works is now 250k away...lol

Yep, really only wanted the laptop for photo downloads and notes on the run as I have a PDA with Natmap etc. But having Natmap stored as well will be handy especially for using the Satellite feature.

get outmore, that is why the first question was about the size of his memory stick. I know Willem uses them for music. The local post office has 4gig at under $17, when 2gig are frequently a similar price. You can get an external 160gig HD for about $100.

Bro, if you can get the network going, that helps too further down the track. Bro, what do you want the satellite feature for? You can see where they are on the PDA I would have thought.

Gidday Willem,

You have a removable HDD if I recall, Didnt we make one from your old Laptop? If so use this.. Now for a silly question, do you want Natmap Raster loaded or just Oziexplorer running the 2008 Raster Map? Much easier to do the later, download Ozi from site and then just import the 250K map from Raster on your PC.

Hope you get it sorted, what operating system is the Acer running...?

Cheers Bud

No probs Willie,

I knew a man of your technical ability would have it sorted out.

Are you going to use it with a USB GPS ?

No

Laptop is for photo download only and Natmap Satellite viewing (which does not work on my PDA...as you would know)

Nice choice. Blue was my second choice. Anything but universal black.

I probably would have even gone for pink if it was the only alternative to black.

Good to hear that Dave helped you sort things out without another trip to the Big Smoke or more expense.

It's actually a beaut little PC isn't it? And I'm glad they put XP on it instead of Vista.

Hope you enjoy it.

cheers

If you have a local PC guy he should be able to get one of these for you (or another brand, doesn't matter):

Willem, you need a degree in rocket science to get the ethernet going.

Here are some hints.
If you have vista on any machine go to step 5
1)If you have a hub use that and standard ethernet cables.
2)if not get a crossover cable

The conectors on both pc's should have flashing lights.
3)Go to connections, and select the ethernet interfaces and go to properties. Make sure you have file and printer sharing enabled on both PC's
4)Right Click on the DVD of the donor PC and enable file sharing.

If the sun, moon and stars are all aligned then you should be able to see the DVD from the new PC.

5)When this all fails, Just buy a USB DVD drive as Gone bush suggests.

Hi Willem
I recently purchases the Toshiba 8.9" mini notebook, same principal.
If you do not have a large flash drive, you will need a 16GB, or external hard drive. As you would know, the Natmap 2008 is over 8GB in file size. I have transferred it all to the new mini notebook, including OziExplorer, Microsoft Office and Photographic Programmes.

When I uses the Microsoft and OziExplorer programmes, you will have to re register, just as you did when you first installed the programmes.

All the best and if you have any problems, get back to me.

Cheers

Stephen.

Hi Stephen

No I have not enabled Microsoft Office stuff as that is another $100 and I do not need it on this laptop. Have copied all WORD stuff to NOTEPAD and it works just as well.

Don't need Ozi either. Only want to load Natmap 2008 so that I can use Satellite feature as this does not work on my PDA

All internal Windows and Microsoft programmes work OK for what I want

Thanks for the feedback

its a pretty good little machine, i have one as well
i have put ozi on there and currently running the 250k map from NatMap.
I originally just had the full natmap product on there, but found it slowed the computer down a bit (from original spec speed)
so i imported the 250k map and downloaded Ozi, it works a bit quicker than NapMap.

I have just bought Hema 4wd Australia and the USB GPS from this site, so i will see how that goes.

to transfer files and stuff from one computer to another, i use an SD card. as the Acer has two SD input slots, one for expending the storage of the computer, and one for just transferring files.
