Hi all, hope all is
well and hope evryone has had a great festive season. Recently read about the new breed of LED flashlights and how
bright and cheap to run they are. Have owned the smaller LED Lenser keyring lights and stuff, but would like to know if anyone has used some of the bigger ones, in particular the P7. With a claimed run time of up to 200 hours off 4 aaa batteries i am very keen to own one. They start at around $85 so they arent cheap compared to a normal Dolphin torch but there built to last and im sure after a short while they will pay for themselves. Just dont wanna jump into it and find out that they arent at all that
bright, or that they chew batteries, though even a battery life of 10 hours would be great and rechargable aaa batteries are cheap as chips anyway these days. Living in croc and king brown country i like to see where i am walking at night and whats around
camp when lights are out.
Cheers

Bought the LED Lenser P7 as part of wife's Christmas pressy. Paid $90 for it at local
camping place. Great torch, adjustable beam width, so very
bright when on narrowest. Very small torch for the amount of light it gives.
I reckon it is a good investment.

Kroozer,
They are very
bright to most peoples standards.....we issue them to all our volunteer members for Search and Rescue purposes. They will last much longer on NiMh (rechargable) AAA batteries due to their power drain on high power, however it wouldn't matter too much if always on low.
We upgraded all our existing issue of LED Lenser - Hocus Focus (the previous model which the P7 replaces) with these newer ones as they were only $5 more for us to do so, and having 4 rechargables to charge was much easier than the 3 of old.
I have even used one at night navigating tricky river/
creek conditions in an inflatable rescue boat (when the main lighting failed) with no problems...they are more than adequate for many the tasks that you might encounter.
My only complaint of them would be the need to scroll through the power settings (off-High-Low) every time to get to the low setting if needed....only a half second to do so though, whilst you may be blinding some individual with their sheer brightness. :-)
Just bought a P14 (think P7, then double EVER DIMENSION :-)) for a friend for Christmas who is a torch junky :-)

I work on the theory I will lose a torch ( lost stolen or strayed ) before it breaks.
Super Cheap Autos have some really nice 2 d cell led torches as
well as some 3 AAA little led torches both work
well and are good value for money.
Also today I saw a 3 D cell genuine Mag Lite in Bunnings $35 with a bonus mini torch and good quality batteries !!!
The last one I bought cost me $128 on special with a good discount !

We had to look into one of our 200 tonne silos last night at work. The boss had a dolphin torch with a new battery and i had my P7 lenser. The boss switched of the dolphin torch when i turned on the P7. No comparison, for such a small torch it sure puts out the lumens.
