Hi all,

After much research trying to find a decent wheel clamp for the CT I have been able to find only a few that look any good with the best one being around $500. Does anyone have any ideas on where I might pick up a decent wheel clamp hopefully for a bit less dollars?

Cheers

Thunderflash

Make one yourself

1. Buy two el cheapo car ramps from an accessories shop. Jack CT up and slide ramps over tyre (remove any bracing that may prevent this). Chain the ramps together and you have a home-made jobbie

2. Go to a steel maker and buy a fairly thick mild steel rod. Bend one end in the shape of a hook to be hooked around the inside of the wheel rim. Cut a thread on to the other end and with a small brace attached tighten on to rim with appropriate nut. You can now use a second nut to lock it on even further and this nut can have a piece of chain welded to it and then looped around and locked on to the trailer axle.

Either of these ideas shouldn't cost more that $50 if you are able to make them yourself or $100 employing a trades person.

I always look for the cheaper alternative...LOL

I'm with you Willem .....

Thunderflash .... got slotted rims on the trailer wheels ?????

1/ .. Weld two closed hooks on the trailer chassis .... thread some chain through the rims / axle and padlock to hooks.

2/ .. Trailer stabilizer legs that cant be packed up without unlocking.

Thanks guys, have the (limiited!) skills and tools to construct my own, just putting out feelers to see if anyone knew of any suppliers worth looking at.

Out with the welder I guess and I hadn't thought of chaining a wheel to the trailer so I'll look at that further.

Hi all,
Chappie over on the Grey Nomads site posted today about buying a quality motorbike lock and chain from a motorbike shop. Says they are similiar to the ones greenies use to chain themselves to bulldozers. Boltcutters etc won't cut them, apparently. Might be worth investigating. You could adjust to suit the suspension/axles/wheels of your rig. Cheers, Tony

With a bit of luck you may get your very own greenie as well.

Hi,

I bought a clamp off Ebay and I'd give it a recommendation. I've never had another type to compare it with but it seems well made and I got it for a price that I considered cheap; certainly way less than $50.

Cheers Frank.

G'day
We bought a top quality wheel clamp ( Klamp It )
from the owner of a caravan yard which had closed down
Sadly there will be more van and boat yards going out of business unless things improve next year

G'day Thunda'
I was looking for a wheel clamp, an ended up buying a couplng lock from Super Cheap Autos - about the $50 mark from memory. Clamps around the cup on the A-frame, heavy duty paddlock that is hard to get to, so can't easily be bashed off.
Have look at this site, scroll down there are a few options available.

An advantage of coupling locks is that they can also be used over the coupling when the trailer is hitched to the vehicle, giving you security on teb track too.
